Orange County\/Los Angeles-based Americana string band Moonsville Collective, known for its traditional mix of old time, folk, country, bluegrass, and rhythm and blues, has announced tour dates this summer (see full tour schedule below).\u00a0 The band will also be releasing a new album in 2015, with a street date to be announced soon.\u00a0 They recorded the forthcoming self-produced album at Ear Witness Studios in Whittier, CA, with Sam Knaak engineering it.\u00a0 Already, the band has been playing a number of the songs on the album live, with fan favorites \u201cBlue Money Grove,\u201d \u201cEnd of the Line,\u201d and \u201cRollin\u2019 in Paradise\u201d slated to be on the record.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve gotten into a deeper, more personal songwriting side of things on the new album,\u201d double bass player Seth Richardson says. \u201cThe lyrics reflect a much more personal approach than any of our past songs have had.\u201d\u00a0 As with any collective, the line-up sometimes shifts, but Richardson says the core band\u2014including himself, Ryan Welch, Corey Adams (vocals\/tenor banjo\/guitar), Drew Martin (percussion), Matthew McQueen (mandolin), “Dobro Dan” Richardson (slide\/resonator\/dobro), and Sean Kibler (fiddle)\u2014is\u00a0the lineup that worked on the forthcoming album in the studio.<\/p>\n
Moonsville Collective has become an integral part of both the California surf and motorcycle cultures. With their tag line \u201cCalifornia Goodtime\u201d a perfect pairing with many apparel and outdoor brands, twice the band has taken part in the Outdoor Retailer Convention hosted annually in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has collaborated with and played at parties\/events for brands such as HippyTree, Jansport, Matix, Iron & Resin, and Sanuk.<\/p>\n
Moonsville Collective formed in August of 2011 and hit the ground running, playing some 250 shows throughout California, Nevada, and Utah in the two years following. Their heavy schedule allowed for them to quickly refine their craft and solidify their family mentality, which has been essential to the success of the group. They are often spoken of as embracing\u00a0the sensibilities of folk legends Levon Helm (of The Band) and Bob Dylan, the high energy of Old Crow Medicine Show, and clever lyrics like those of Hank Williams and Huddy \u201cLedbelly\u201d Ledbetter. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed by the local industry, and Moonsville Collective has been awarded \u201c2013 Best Country\/Americana Band\u201d by the OC Music Awards, \u201c2012 Best Live Band\u201d by\u00a0OC Weekly<\/em>, and named \u201cBest Bluegrass\/Americana Band in Orange County\u201d by CBS Los Angeles.\u00a0 Via their label Rock Ridge Music, in November of last year Moonsville Collective released a reissue of the band\u2019s 2013 album,\u00a0Cradle to the Grave<\/em>, paired with a live EP (originally known as the\u00a0Salamander Sessions<\/em>) which featured covers.<\/p>\n Moonsville Collective has shared the stage with acts such as Willie Watson (Old Crow Medicine Show), Donavan Frankenreiter, The White Buffalo, Wanda Jackson, Frank Fairfield, Rose\u2019s Pawn Shop, Sean & Zander, Grace & Tony, Humming House, and The Dustbowl Revival.
