Album coming via Villain Place\/Rock Ridge Music<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nashville-based post-rock quartet aave <pronounced ahh-vey> will be releasing its debut full-length,\u00a0There\u2019s Nothing<\/em>, via Villain Place\/Rock Ridge Music on August 14, 2015 (in the digital format only). \u00a0The creative collective specializes in sprawling psychedelic soundscapes and hypnotic musicality that evokes both bleakness and bliss, and music that is brimming with intricate ambient patterns, intriguing drum sounds, rubbery basslines, and celestial lead vocals.\u00a0 aave has been favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd, Interpol, Warpaint, Tame Impala, and Blonde Redhead. \u00a0The album\u2019s recently-released first single, \u201cGoing Nowhere,\u201d has already been embraced by media.\u00a0\u00a0Deli Magazine<\/em>\u00a0has called it a \u201cdriven powerhouse of dreamwave.\u201d \u00a0Villain Place will release the album, with label services and support provided by Rock Ridge Music.<\/p>\n

Says aave guitarist Lloyd Aur Norman about the partnership with Rock Ridge Music:\u00a0 \u201cWe feel very fortunate to work with Rock Ridge Music. Says Rock Ridge Music CEO Tom Derr about working with aave and Villain Place:\u00a0 \u201cHaving worked with Lloyd and Kyle [Kelly, vocals\/guitar] with great expectations and rewards over the past few years on various projects, if it ain\u2019t broke, it was obvious to work with them on this project as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re four people just trying to express ourselves authentically, collaboratively, and communicate our feelings to others,\u201d says Norman about the music he makes with bandmates Kelly (vocals\/guitar), Parrish (bass), and Peter Teselsky (drums).\u00a0 From the beginning, aave was conceptualized to be an outlet for many levels of expression. One example of this is the band\u2019s name, which is Finnish for ghost, and conjures the haunting and otherworldly qualities of aave\u2019s music. Another layer is that lead singer and visual artist Kelly creates stunning visual images to accompany each track, and his breathtaking artwork is also utilized in band videos and sometimes in live shows where the band plays to projected images. \u201cWe want to be more than just a traditional live performance band,\u201d says Parrish, \u201cWe want to take our audience places emotionally by engaging both aural and visual senses.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s Nothing\u00a0<\/em>was written, tracked, and produced by the band at its studio, Villain Place in Nashville. Self-producing was integral to the writing process as it allowed the\u00a0band to take their time building soundscapes and track when inspiration hit.\u00a0 Many of the lyrics on the album were conceived as Kelly recorded them, adding to the subconscious psychedelic feel of the album.\u00a0 For mixing and mastering, aave welcomed the talents of Jon Stinson (Kings of Leon \/ The Features) and Doug Van Sloun (First Aid Kit \/ Tokyo Police Club) to mix and master respectively.<\/p>\n

The band began in 2011, as an ambient indie-rock duo (Kelly and Norman), and released its debut EP,\u00a0Sleep to Forget<\/em>, in 2013 to critical acclaim.\u00a0 During this incarnation, the\u00a0Nashville Scene<\/em>\u00a0praised the band, calling them \u201cour hometown purveyors of dreamy, spacious, ambient post-rock.\u201d\u00a0 In 2013, the twosome became a foursome (adding Teselsky and Parrish), welcoming into the fold a dynamic rhythm section. This artistically expansive version of aave is featured on\u00a0There\u2019s Nothing<\/em>. \u00a0The four members of aave have played together in various configurations over many years but never together on the same project until this album. As a quartet, the musicians furthered the aave artistic continuum by writing new material through collective improvisation.<\/p>\n

Up next, the band is extending its artistic reach through using its studio and indie music business savvy to launch a boutique enterprise. Villain Place will be open as a studio for other bands, and the guys will be using their talents to give back to others through offering a menu of a la carte services such as music distribution, press campaigns, and audio and video production services. Parrish says: \u201cIt\u2019s really meaningful to contribute and give back, and to use our band, and our knowledge, as a platform to help other musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

aave is planning some tour dates around the album release which will be announced soon.<\/p>\n
