On October 23, 2015, Columbus, Ohio-based quartet The Wet Darlings will celebrate the national release of their album,\u00a0Beautiful Things<\/em>, with a vinyl version; digital and CD versions will also be available.\u00a0 With music that straddles saccharine and grit, they\u2019ll stick to the roof of your mouth, and perhaps make you want to brush your teeth. Bubblegum-sweet pop-rock hooks belie themes of salty emotion and lovelorn hangovers, with vocals that are a punch to the gut. These are breakup songs.\u00a0 Ken Stringfellow of The Posies has praised The Wet Darlings, saying, \u201cWhat a voice! Holy Bejeezus.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the heart of a heart-shaped state, the band was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 2008. Guitarist Bill Patterson, who entered musical puberty via Van Halen and King Crimson, met singer Jenny Lute, who started a prodigious vocal career as a teen, belting out gospel standards in a rural Ohio church. The band is rounded out with genre-hopping percussionist Aaron\u00a0Bishara\u00a0and bassist\/synth player Joe Patterson.<\/p>\n

The group released two EPs and was named in\u00a0Columbus\u00a0Alive<\/em>‘s\u00a0annual Bands to Watch issue (where they called The Wet Darlings\u2019 sound \u201ca dazzling modern update of \u201990s alt-rock\u2019s finer strains seasoned by gospel, soul and retro pop…with sunshine-and-hellfire country-fried swoons\u201d). Their music received regular regional radio play and over a half-million plays on\u00a0Spotify\u00a0of the single “Bicycle,” and the band has shared the stage with artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Kings of Leon, British dance-rockers Deluka,\u00a0MONA, Josh Krajcik (\u201cThe X Factor\u201d), The Spin Doctors, Saintseneca, Red Wanting Blue, Lydia Loveless, and more.\u00a0UWeekly Magazine<\/em>\u00a0called The Wet Darlings \u201craw and captivating,\u201d and said their music is \u201cdripping with pure emotional intensity\u2026 Lute’s voice resonates through a crushing guitar presence.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Loud and Upfront Magazine<\/em>\u00a0echoed the \u201ccaptivating\u201d descriptor and elaborated by saying, \u201cTheir sound is stunning\u2026 sweet and powerful,\u201d while\u00a0614 Magazine\u00a0<\/em>described their music as \u201ca blend of sweltering big vocal sing-a-longs.\u201d<\/p>\n

With all of that under their belt, the band headed into the studio to record their first full-length album.\u00a0Two\u00a0years later, they emerged with\u00a0Beautiful Things<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Columbus Alive\u00a0<\/em>has already praised the new album, writing, \u201cThe Wet Darlings constructed a lush, gleaming musical world. (Jenny) Lute achors the proceedings with her force-of-nature voice, which carries room-leveling power even in those moments it barely registers a whisper.\u201d<\/p>\n
