Hugh Masterson to release a single, \u201cTrouble,\u201d later in July in advance of new album<\/strong><\/p>\n Nashville-based Americana singer-songwriter Hugh Masterson is set to share his latest single, \u201cTrouble,\u201d via all download and streaming outlets on July 19, 2019.\u00a0 The single is the first from his forthcoming (as yet untitled) new album, which is set for release in late 2019 by Rock Ridge Music.\u00a0 A dusty, yearning, dream-slide ode to life throwing things your way that you can\u2019t control, \u201cTrouble\u201d (along with the rest of the album) was produced by Justin Glasco (formerly of The Lone Bellow).\u00a0\u00a0The track will premiere on July 18, 2019 at\u00a0The Bluegrass Situation<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI lost my mom to dementia during the coldest part of the year in northern Wisconsin,\u201d Masterson recalls of the inspiration behind \u201cTrouble.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI ended up suffering from a depression I was having a hard time getting out of. I lost a job and a relationship, and I needed a change. I moved to Nashville, so I had to start over completely, and it wasn\u2019t the easiest process for me, having left my band behind as well. In the end, if you keep working through and towards something, a lot comes out in the wash.\u00a0 This song, and the album it comes from, are about trying to get by and to get through the challenges of life and love, and ultimately realizing much of what we try to control, we cannot.\u201d<\/p>\n The new material came from a time when Masterson was grappling with the writing process \u2013 either not feeling creative or experiencing times where he was only writing sad songs.\u00a0 Glasco encouraged him to work through it, and, as Masterson recalls, \u201cI got back to a place where it felt good again. \u00a0Justin forced me into it, but I needed that.\u201d\u00a0 Before Glasco relocated to the West Coast, the two recorded seven of the 10 songs in his former Nashville studio. The remaining tracks were done at High Cotton Recording Studio just outside of Nashville when Glasco was back in Tennessee.\u00a0 \u201cDespite pushing me outside of my usual boundaries, I was really comfortable working with Justin,\u201d Masterson says.<\/p>\n The forthcoming album is the follow-up to Masterson\u2019s 2017 release,\u00a0Lost + Found<\/em>, which was his first solo effort and was produced after the move from Milwaukee (he was originally from the tiny town of Butternut, Wisconsin) to Nashville. A deeply personal record about surviving loss and life changes while gaining self-awareness through experience,\u00a0Lost + Found<\/em>\u00a0was praised heavily by the press.\u00a0\u00a0No Depression\u00a0<\/em>called it \u201ca cohesive, self-reflective journey from one end of the spectrum to the other: loneliness and redemption, love and loss, the atrophy of staying put and the freedom of letting go. \u2026one part Midwest Americana to two parts Lower Broadway honky tonk.\u201d\u00a0The Daily Country<\/em>\u00a0declared it \u201cdeeply personal \u2026relatable, impactful, and undeniably enjoyable. \u2026a sound that blends Americana and Southern Rock with jangle, grit, and heart.\u201d\u00a0Wide Open Country<\/em>\u00a0said his music was \u201crife with wordplay and old-fashioned rock \u2019n\u2019 roll vibes.\u201d<\/p>\n Masterson found a home in the Nashville music scene and has hit the road with artists such as The Lone Bellow, Margo Price, Nikki Lane, Anderson East, Lindi Ortega, and The Bottle Rockets.\u00a0 Additionally, he\u2019s drawn attention from the Americana Music Association, CMT, KCRW\u2019s \u201cMorning Becomes Eclectic,\u201d\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em>, World Caf\u00e9, and South by Southwest.<\/p>\n Masterson is on the road this summer \u2013 see tour schedule below.<\/p>\n Hugh Masterson Tour dates:<\/b>
