Charleston, SC-based singer-songwriter Brendan James has just released his video for his new single, \u201cNothin\u2019 But Love\u201d (http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fE0EduRhlao<\/a>); the clip features a number of loving couples of all types and is a platform for marriage and equality and gay rights.\u00a0 In addition to coverage already by a number of LGBT press outlets (Instinct Magazine<\/em> has called James their \u201cstraight ally,\u201d while After Elton<\/em>, Boy Culture<\/em>, After Ellen<\/em>, QClick<\/em>, GA Voice<\/em> and others have written about it), the video has also been retweeted by a number of celebrities including:\u00a0 Boy George, Michael Urie (\u201cUgly Betty,\u201d \u201cPartners\u201d), Melissa Claire Egan (\u201cThe Young & the Restless\u201d), Graham Patrick Martin (\u201cMajor Crimes,\u201d \u201cTwo & A Half Men\u201d), Keith Powell (\u201c30 Rock\u201d), Sarah Drew (\u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d), Anthony Rapp (\u201cRENT\u201d), and Hannah Marks (\u201cAmazing Spiderman,\u201d \u201cNecessary Roughness\u201d).\u00a0 The song is from James\u2019 most recent album, Hope In Transition<\/em>, which was released by Rock Ridge Music on July 10, 2012.\u00a0 The video was directed by Jeremy O’Keefe (\u201cSomewhere Slow,\u201d \u201cWrestling\u201d).<\/p>\n

Says James of the decision to use his video as a platform for marriage equality:\u00a0 \u201cWhile on tour in September, I stopped in Atlanta at the request of an old college friend, Jeremy O’Keefe. Jeremy is now a successful filmmaker who was spending the summer in Atlanta.\u00a0 He asked if I would shoot a special music video with him, using my new song, \u2018Nothin\u2019 But Love,\u2019 as a platform for marriage equality and gay rights.\u00a0 I said yes without blinking an eye.\u00a0 Jeremy is gay, and to think that he is denied the same marriage rights that I am is unbelievable to me. \u00a0He invited 30 people of different races, ages and lifestyles to come and lip-sync my song that day. And the result was overwhelming.\u00a0 I’d like to thank everyone involved for the love and kindness they brought to the set that day, and for showing me first hand just how humble and meaningful their cause really is. \u00a0I hope this simple video helps tip the scales towards love and marriage equality in this country.\u00a0\u00a0It’s definitely time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Says the video director O\u2019Keefe about the cause:\u00a0 \u201cHomosexuality is not a subculture. James is hoping to partner with an appropriate charity to be the recipient of donations from the sale of the single.\u00a0 James and O\u2019Keefe encourage those who are interested in learning more and becoming involved in the marriage equality movement to visit Human Rights Campaign (http:\/\/www.hrc.org<\/a>) or Legalize Love (http:\/\/www.legalizelovebug.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Hope In Transition<\/em>, which reached #14 <\/em>on the Billboard <\/em>Heatseekers chart, <\/em>is James\u2019 most hopeful and invigorating collection of music in his critically-acclaimed, seven-year career.\u00a0 He blurs the genre lines between shimmering soul, confessional folk, and goose-bump inducing pop-rock, and keenly balances a timeless sense of organic instrumentation with a playfully experimental penchant for slinky R&B-flavored beats and tasteful electro ambience. Hope In Transition<\/em> was produced by Max Coane (with additional track production by Julian Coryell).<\/p>\n

Prior to Hope In Transition<\/em>, he released an independent EP as well as two albums on the Decca label, one of which featured the song, \u201cThe Lucky Ones,\u201d which the U.S. women\u2019s soccer team played in their locker room to psych themselves up prior to every game they played in the Summer 2012 Olympics, including their gold medal-winning game on August 9th.<\/p>\n

The Derry, New Hampshire-native started his professional career in New York City. During this formative time he played over 300 shows, building a robust fanbase touring with such diverse artists as John Mayer, Paula Cole, Keb Mo, Parachute, and Matt White. James garnered widespread exposure through his songs being featured on television shows such as \u201cPrivate Practice,\u201d \u201cAmerican Idol,\u201d \u201cBones,\u201d \u201cSo You Think You Can Dance,\u201d \u201cArmy Wives,\u201d and \u201cOne Tree Hill.\u201d\u00a0 He also made TV appearances on \u201cRachael Ray\u201d and \u201cCBS Sunday Morning.\u201d\u00a0 Both of Brendan James\u2019 Decca albums climbed the iTunes Top 10 pop charts\u2014James\u2019 sophomore album, Brendan James, climbed to #1 on the iTunes singer-songwriter charts.<\/p>\n
