{"id":681,"date":"2013-07-29T15:11:06","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T15:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/skyemediaonline.com\/wordpress\/?p=681"},"modified":"2013-10-11T14:52:09","modified_gmt":"2013-10-11T14:52:09","slug":"bardot-to-release-debut-ep-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/skyemediaonline.com\/wordpress\/bardot-to-release-debut-ep-in-october\/","title":{"rendered":"BARDOT to release debut EP in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>July 29, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>BARDOT TO RELEASE DEBUT EP IN OCTOBER<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>New York City-based indie rock band BARDOT (featuring Ariel Aparicio) is set to release its debut, seven-song EP, <em>BARDOT<\/em>, on October 1, 2013.\u00a0 The EP will be available for free download on the band\u2019s Facebook page (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bardottheband\">www.facebook.com\/BARDOTtheband<\/a>).\u00a0 Says band leader Aparicio of the release plans:\u00a0 \u201cI decided to put this record out for free for a few reasons. \u00a0First, just as a thank you to all the people who have followed and supported my projects over the years.\u00a0 Second, to reach as many new indie rock fans as possible.\u00a0 And thirdly, with all of the file sharing going on these days, I figured it was the way to go. Just might be the wave of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>From the moody atmospherics of \u201cSatellite,\u201d to the feel-good garage pop of \u201cStill The Rains,\u201d to the sexy funk of \u201cSylvia, My Love,\u201d BARDOT wears many faces, all of them part of a faceted, beautiful whole.\u00a0 BARDOT came about in 2011 when Aparicio (guitar and vocals) realized that the creative process surrounding new music he was working on with his longtime backing band had shifted. \u201cI\u2019d been playing with these guys for a while now, some of the best musicians in NYC,\u201d says Aparicio.\u00a0 \u201cWe were rehearsing some new songs, but this time it felt different.\u00a0 Everyone was actively contributing parts and ideas and arrangements.\u00a0\u00a0 It was very organic. It felt like a band. So I made it one.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Joining Aparicio in the BARDOT line-up are Steve Dawson (guitar, has played with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Jesse Malin, CJ Ramone), Dave Berger\u00a0 (drums and keyboards, has played with Justin Bond, Lou Reed, Erin McKeown, Joey Arias), and Pemberton Roach (bass, has played with Moby and Fountains of Wayne).\u00a0 All of the members provide backing vocals.\u00a0 Says Aparicio:\u00a0 \u201cWe all really dig those early Kinks record and especially the backup vocals. Trying to work in a little of that into BARDOT.\u201d\u00a0 The band made its live debut in December 2011 in New York City.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>BARDOT\u2019s name came about after Aparicio attended an art show featuring photos of Brigitte Bardot in Chicago.\u00a0 Struck by the images, he imagined the EP cover art before he even chose the name.\u00a0 \u201cTwo of my biggest idols \u2013 Chrissie Hynde and David Bowie \u2013 have name-checked Bardot in their songs, so I had to use the name,\u201d Aparicio says.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Aparicio was surrounded by the rhythms of salsa, funk, and disco. The discovery of Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin in adolescence prompted him to grow out his hair and pick up the guitar, but Aparicio never segregated genres from one another. \u00a0\u00a0Aparicio\u2019s musical endeavors prior to BARDOT were all under his own name. \u00a0In 2011, he released \u201cAerials\u201d (produced by Tom Gilroy), and the video for one of the tracks from the album, \u201cShe Can Show Us\u201d debuted exclusively on MSN.com and garnered 20,000 views upon its release.\u00a0 The video was also ranked in Logo&#8217;s NewNowNext Music airplay charts top 10 within first week of release.\u00a0 Response to a free download of the song \u201cSorry\u201d on SongShooter.com was so strong that the site crashed and additional servers had to be utilized to accommodate demand.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><em>NPR Alt.Latino<\/em> said of Aparicio:\u00a0 \u201cIn an era of ironic coolness, his music is shamelessly honest and poignantly sentimental. He doesn&#8217;t mock his musical deities; rather, he truly lets them possess him, fight for their turf within his music and whatever happens, happens. And the result is quite beautiful.\u201d \u00a0<em>MTV Iggy<\/em> proclaimed: \u00a0\u201cIf cowpunkers The Cramps,\u00a0 UK\u2019s Body Rockers, Cuban son king Arsenio Rodriguez, and Prince threw down on an album, you\u2019d get the totally nuts Cuban\/American electro-guitarist Ariel Aparicio.\u201d\u00a0 And the<em> Houston Chronicle<\/em> wrote: \u00a0\u201cThe Miami-bred, Brooklyn-based rocker makes jangly, joyful rock.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In 2011, Aparicio was honored at the 7th Annual OutMusic Awards in New York City, receiving top honors for his recording of \u201cPeople Who Died\u201d when he was awarded Outstanding Rock Song of the Year. \u00a0\u201cPeople Who Died\u201d was released in 2010 on Aparicio\u2019s \u201cThe Bedroom Tapes\u201d EP and is a re-imagining of the Jim Carroll Band classic originally released on his 1980 \u201cCatholic Boy\u201d debut.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Songs and videos from his previous releases, including \u201cthe bEdRoom tapeS,\u201d \u201cAll These Brilliant Things,\u201d \u201cFrolic &amp; F***,\u201d and \u201cAll I Wanted\u201d have made him a popular fixture on Logo&#8217;s NewNowNext and the Click List.
