Nashville quintet Humming House is set to release a new album,\u00a0Revelries<\/i>, on March 24, 2015, via Nashville label Rock Ridge Music (with distribution via ADA).\u00a0\u00a0With interwoven threads of folk, soul, bluegrass and more, Humming House\u2019s acoustic instrumentation \u2013 presenting mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and bass in fresh roles \u2013 flips between rousing energy and nuanced presentation, topped off by stunning vocal harmonies.\u00a0\u00a0American Songwriter<\/i>\u00a0called their music \u201cinfectious and grin-inducing.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Roughstock\u00a0<\/i>dubbed Humming House\u00a0\u201cdarned close to perfect.\u201d\u00a0Huffington Post<\/i>\u00a0just named the band one of the \u201cpeak musical performers of 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n
Says band founder Justin Wade Tam:\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to release a new set of musical narratives into the world.\u00a0\u00a0Revelries\u00a0<\/i>embodies our adventures on the road, our evolution as a band, our love of storytelling, and our insatiable desire to have a good time on stage and off.\u201d<\/p>\n
Produced by Grammy winner Mitch Dane and mixed by Grammy winner Vance Powell (Jack White, Buddy Guy),\u00a0Revelries\u00a0<\/i>is the third recording bearing the name Humming House. The title comes from a lyric in the tenth track on the album, \u201cCarry On,\u201d a feisty and ambitious song in which delicate charango plays counterpoint to a muted guitar. By the time we get there we\u2019ve heard the striding opener \u201cRun With Me,\u201d the quick-stepping waltz \u201cFly On\u201d and the smoldering, bluesy \u201cNuts, Bolts and Screws.\u201d The album\u2019s first single, \u201cGreat Divide,\u201d is an ode to travel, motion, and new frontiers\u00a0\u2013a recurring theme that\u2019s also touched on in the fiddle and accordion-driven \u201cHitch Hike\u201d and the rocking \u201cFreight Train.\u201d A classic jazz ribbon of smoke drifts through the magic \u201cI\u2019m A Bird.\u201d After \u201cCarry On,\u201d\u00a0Revelries\u00a0<\/i>concludes on the drifting \u201cAtlantic\u201d \u2013 a throwback folk song that evokes old sea shanties.<\/p>\n
Although\u00a0Revelries\u00a0<\/i>is Humming House\u2019s third release, it\u2019s something of a debut. In 2011, songwriter Tam called on some friends to flesh out recordings of songs he\u2019d written. Humming House earned attention for videos of their infectious songs \u201cCold Chicago\u201d and \u201cGypsy Django\u201d and landed performance slots with tastemakers such as Lightning 100, Daytrotter, and the Americana Music Association festival. The addition of Leslie Rodriguez brought a female vocal to mesh with Tam\u2019s singing, while fiddler Bobby Chase brought classical training and down-home fire. That rounded out a band of highly skilled instrumentalists, including Josh Wolak on mandolin and Ben Jones on acoustic bass.\u00a0Revelries<\/i>\u00a0is the first album these five musicians have written, arranged, and recorded together.<\/p>\n

As complete as they are in the studio and on record, Humming House is fundamentally a live band.\u00a0\u00a0With scarcely a tube\u2019s worth of amplification or electricity and a drum kit of percussion distributed among the band members, they emit force on stage and demand attention. They\u2019ve rocked rooms of all sizes and played Forecastle Festival, Bristol\u2019s Rhythm & Roots Festival, and the Cayamo Cruise with the elite of Americana. They opened the new Music City Roots hall in The Factory in 2014, sharing the bill with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell.<\/p>\n
The band will hit the road for several dates with St. Paul & The Broken Bones in January (see full tour schedule below), play the 2015 Cayamo Cruise (w\/John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Lyle Lovett) and join Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors in March and April.\u00a0\u00a0Huffington Post\u00a0<\/i>urged, \u201cPut Humming House on your list of Must-See Acts of 2015.\u201d<\/p>\n
