Martha’s Trouble to release two holiday singles in October

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 21, 2015

MARTHA’S TROUBLE TO RELEASE TWO HOLIDAY SINGLES IN OCTOBER
Martha’s Trouble offers their most anticipated holiday work yet with the arrival of two digital singles, “River” and “White Christmas,” in October 2015.  The new singles follow the success of two independent holiday albums, Christmas Lights (2002) and This Christmas (2008).
In 2002, Christmas Lights was selected for USA Today’s Top Holiday albums of the year list because of the distinctive voices of lead acoustic guitarist-singer Rob and percussionist-singer Jen. Now in 2015, Martha’s Trouble’s rendition of “River” (a cover of the Joni Mitchell song)  is a gorgeous must-have for your holiday collection, along with the duo’s own take on the classic “White Christmas,” which was made famous by Bing Crosby.
Says Jen, “The spin we put on this song is so relaxing, it will put everyone in the Christmas spirit and will keep you feeling this way for years to come.”
Listeners will immediately recognize the Martha’s Trouble signature sound of folk and country twang, which has been praised by some of the most influential and well-respected music critics of our time. Martha’s Trouble has been listed and featured in Billboard MagazineUSA Today, AOL Music, XM Satellite Radio and Performing Songwriter. All of it is part of a dream that is still in the works – a dream that Jen and Rob keep on dreaming.
The name Martha’s Trouble comes from a story in the Bible about two sisters, Martha and Mary. Jesus came to see them one day, and Martha was running around, trying to clean up and prepare food while Mary was hanging out at Jesus’ feet. The story says Martha was “troubled” because Mary wasn’t helping. The story, the duo says, is a reminder to stop and smell the roses, to keep an eye on
the bigger picture and the important things in life.

The Wet Darlings to release “Beautiful Things” on October 23rd

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 16, 2015

THE WET DARLINGS TO RELEASE BEAUTIFUL THINGS ON OCTOBER 23rd

On October 23, 2015, Columbus, Ohio-based quartet The Wet Darlings will celebrate the national release of their album, Beautiful Things, with a vinyl version; digital and CD versions will also be available.  With music that straddles saccharine and grit, they’ll stick to the roof of your mouth, and perhaps make you want to brush your teeth. Bubblegum-sweet pop-rock hooks belie themes of salty emotion and lovelorn hangovers, with vocals that are a punch to the gut. These are breakup songs.  Ken Stringfellow of The Posies has praised The Wet Darlings, saying, “What a voice! Holy Bejeezus.”

In the heart of a heart-shaped state, the band was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 2008. Guitarist Bill Patterson, who entered musical puberty via Van Halen and King Crimson, met singer Jenny Lute, who started a prodigious vocal career as a teen, belting out gospel standards in a rural Ohio church. The band is rounded out with genre-hopping percussionist Aaron Bishara and bassist/synth player Joe Patterson.

The group released two EPs and was named in Columbus Alive‘s annual Bands to Watch issue (where they called The Wet Darlings’ sound “a dazzling modern update of ’90s alt-rock’s finer strains seasoned by gospel, soul and retro pop…with sunshine-and-hellfire country-fried swoons”). Their music received regular regional radio play and over a half-million plays on Spotify of the single “Bicycle,” and the band has shared the stage with artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Kings of Leon, British dance-rockers Deluka, MONA, Josh Krajcik (“The X Factor”), The Spin Doctors, Saintseneca, Red Wanting Blue, Lydia Loveless, and more. UWeekly Magazine called The Wet Darlings “raw and captivating,” and said their music is “dripping with pure emotional intensity… Lute’s voice resonates through a crushing guitar presence.”  Loud and Upfront Magazine echoed the “captivating” descriptor and elaborated by saying, “Their sound is stunning… sweet and powerful,” while 614 Magazine described their music as “a blend of sweltering big vocal sing-a-longs.”

With all of that under their belt, the band headed into the studio to record their first full-length album. Two years later, they emerged with Beautiful Things Columbus Alive has already praised the new album, writing, “The Wet Darlings constructed a lush, gleaming musical world. (Jenny) Lute achors the proceedings with her force-of-nature voice, which carries room-leveling power even in those moments it barely registers a whisper.”

A Midwestern U.S. regional tour is planned this fall to support the new album.  Tour dates will be announced soon.

Steve Forbert to release “Compromised” on November 6th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 8, 2015

STEVE FORBERT TO RELEASE COMPROMISED ON NOVEMBER 6th

Singer-songwriter Steve Forbert is set to release his 16th studio album, Compromised, on November 6, 2015, via Rock Ridge Music (with distribution through ADA). Recorded in Woodstock and Cape Cod and produced by Forbert along with John Simon (who helmed Forbert’s breakthrough sophomore album, 1979’s Jackrabbit Slim), Compromised is anything but what its title suggests. Its aggressive, roots-rock stylings are reminiscent of Forbert’s 1992 album The American in Me.

From the rambling piano and horn-driven swing in “Big Comeuppance” to the seductive twang in “Devil (Here She Comes Now)” to the ironic romanticizing of Altamont in “Welcome the Rolling Stones,” Forbert has followed his muse to the hilt. “It’s all about the songs,” Forbert acknowledges, “and the songs are about the inspiration. For me, if you have the inspiration, then you have to make the commitment to getting the song as good as you know it should be. Then making an album—a finished product—is your next challenge.”

Compromised collaborators include bassist Joey Spampinato (NRBQ), drummer Lou Cataldo (The Freeze), pianist/trumpeter Kami Lyle, and keyboardist Robbie Kondor, the latter of whom played on Forbert’s classic 1978 debut, Alive on Arrival. “I recorded with the band that did the Arrival and Jackrabbit anniversary tours with me in 2013 and 2014,” Forbert says, “where we played those albums in their entireties. It just seemed natural to say, ‘Okay, we’re going to rehearse for this tour — but let’s record an album together, too.’  And it was great reconnecting with John Simon again after all this time.”

Compromised seems to be a fairly ironic title, given the nature of its contents. “If people ask me why it’s called Compromised, well, that’s the first song on the record, and it’s pretty true to my style,” Forbert admits. “But to put it simply, I’ve been dealing with the changes we’ve all been going through and what we live with in life today. Clearly, we’re going through something new because of the digital revolution. We have so much intensity in the air now — that cliché of too much information.”

In today’s overload-of-information age, Forbert recognizes the value of having a “calling card” song in his arsenal — “Romeo’s Tune,” his indelible pop hit that reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980. “That song took on a life of its own,” he says. “Did I become a household name? No. But you write the songs, and you record the songs. As long as you have the inspiration, you keep on going.” A testament to his songwriting prowess, Forbert’s songs have been recorded by several artists, such as Keith Urban, Marty Stuart, and Rosanne Cash.  His 2002 tribute album to Jimmie Rodgers (entitled Any Old Time) was nominated for a Grammy in the best traditional folk category in 2004. Born in Meridian, Mississippi, Forbert was inducted into the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

Forbert plans to tour in UK and Scandinavia in September and October, with some US dates planned in November and December after Compromised is released (see below for tour schedule).

Christian Lopez Band performing on Mountain Stage and Music City Roots this fall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 8, 2015

CHRISTIAN LOPEZ BAND PERFORMING ON MOUNTAIN STAGE AND MUSIC CITY ROOTS THIS FALL

West Virginia-based Christian Lopez Band will be performing on public radio multiple times this fall:  the group is set to play on the acclaimed, long-running NPR show Mountain Stage on October 25th (radio airdate TBA; the show broadcasts nationally) and on the highly-regarded Music City Roots on November 18th.  Also on tap: Christian and Co. head to Nashville for United Talent Agency’s showcase during the Americana Music Festival on September 18th.  Additionally, they are confirmed to perform on Blue Plate Special in Knoxville, TN, on September 17th.

Christian Lopez Band is in the midst of promoting its debut album, Onward, which was released May 19th via Blaster Records.  (For a full list of confirmed upcoming tour dates please see below or visit: www.christianlopezband.com/tour/.) Produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell), Onward features ten songs written by the band’s 19-year-old namesake, which tackle themes of love, perseverance, coming of age and an appreciation for where you are in life.  The lone cover on the album is a spirited version of the public domain Gospel song “Oh Those Tombs” that was later popularized by Hank Williams. The video for “Leaving It Out” so impressed CMT that they premiered the clip in August on the music-intensive CMT Pure;  a live performance clip of the song “Goodbye” also aired around album release on the channel.  A video of an acoustic version of one of the album’s tracks, “Seven Years,” is set to premiere at The Bluegrass Situation this week.

Press support for Onward has been strong:

American Songwriter:  “Put any preconceptions on the shelf and it’s easy to see that Christian Lopez has a rich career ahead of him. It’s a concept he alludes to in the disc’s forward looking title and proves on every song of this impressive first effort.”
Stereo Subversion: “…it’s Lopez’ acoustic guitar and his soulful voice that pulls deeply on the heartstrings and shines brightest. …[His music] can be revelatory; a much-needed salve for all of the lacquered up bruises brought on by contemporary country and Music Row. …In a noisy realm of new bands and artists, Lopez could be a standout just based on his songwriting ability alone.”

Alternate Root: “There are guys twice Lopez’ age making records that are only half as good. Preternaturally wise and notably talented, this is a kid to watch.” – Top 25 Artists of 2015

Lopez hails from the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, where he was influenced by the Appalachian bluegrass tradition, jam bands, and his father’s deep record collection (which included the folk rock sounds and great songwriting of artists such as Jackson Browne, and James Taylor). Lopez was also young enough to soak up the energy of Americana roots revivalists The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show.  It was these fiery, acoustic bands that inspired him to trade in his electric guitar for an acoustic.  Lopez began writing songs as a teen and began touring before he was old enough to drive.  Music and performances from Christian Lopez Band have been featured in television and online ad campaigns for Belk’s and West Virginia state tourism.

Moonsville Collective to release “Heavy Howl” in October; album features band’s raw, rootsy Americana flavor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 27, 2015

MOONSVILLE COLLECTIVE TO RELEASE HEAVY HOWL IN OCTOBER

Album features band’s raw, rootsy Americana flavor

with a big-sounding communal spirit

Greater Los Angeles area band Moonsville Collective will be releasing their new album on October 30, 2015 via Rock Ridge Music.  The new album, entitled Heavy Howl, is a raw, rootsy storm of Americana with a mix of mandolin, banjo, slide guitar, drums, harmonica and fiddle. The group, which has seven members (including two generations from the same family), was born out of a string of old-time jam sessions and songwriting circles.  Moonsville Collective have held on to that communal spirit, making big-sounding music for a community that is continually growing.

“There are seven of us in the band, and everyone helps shape these songs,” explains Ryan Welch (vocals, guitar, banjo). “We all bring a lot of influences to the table, and it becomes this big pot that gets stirred and mixed up into our own sound.”

Since forming in 2011, Moonsville Collective have never sounded bigger or more focused than they do on Heavy Howl, a self-produced studio album that finds the middle ground between the group’s old-time influences and a more modern sound. It’s an album that also bears the energy and electricity of the band’s live shows, which have taken Moonsville Collective from their home base in Southern California to stages across the country. Many of the people and cities they’ve visited along the way make appearances on Heavy Howl, adding a personal element to a record that broadens the band’s sound and reach.

“We all got in the van and just played a lot of shows,” says co-founder Corey Adams of the months before the album’s creation. (He splits most of the band’s songwriting and vocal duties with Welch and also plays guitar and banjo.) “All of that reflects in the new songs on Heavy Howl. As writers, we got much more personal. A lot of the songs are reflections of where we’ve been, who we’ve met and what we’ve been up to.”  Moonsville Collective plans to tour in support of the album, with early tour dates prior to album release confirmed and some album release celebrations planned (see tour dates below).

Rounded out by bandmates Seth Richardson (double bass), Drew Martin (percussion), Matthew McQueen (mandolin), “Dobro Dan” Richardson (slide/resonator/dobro) and Sean Kibler (fiddle), Moonsville Collective have become representatives of California’s Americana scene, a genre whose typical strongholds — Appalachia, the Deep South, and Texas — are thousands of miles away from the West Coast. Free to reinterpret those old-school sounds for a new century, Moonsville Collective have filled their music with the literature, spirit, and grit of their native California, resulting in a motto and lifestyle they’ve dubbed “California goodtime.”

It’s a lifestyle that goes beyond music. Out west, there’s a heavily steeped tradition of outdoor culture, where backyard rambles, fishing, anything maritime, motorcycles and sleeping under the stars are all part of the same world. That world is where Moonsville Collective set up camp, too, embraced by a number of lifestyle brands — including Sanuk, Hippytree, and Iron & Resin — in the process.

With influences that include Levon Helm, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty and Hank Williams Sr., Moonsville Collective cover much ground on Heavy Howl. “Cow and the Cream” roots itself in gospel music, “Big Jimmy” twangs like a country song, “Rollin’ in Paradise” flirts with jam-band music and “Blue Money Grove” sinks its teeth into a swampy, Louisiana-worthy groove. Together, those styles form the borders of Heavy Howl‘s sound, with Moonsville Collective filling the rest of the songs with everything from Appalachian folk to southern rhythm & blues.

Moonsville Collective Tour Schedule:

8/28/15 – Santa Ana, CA / The Observatory (w/Christian Lopez Band, Show Ponies)

8/29/15 – Los Angeles, CA / Hotel Café (w/Christian Lopez Band)

8/30/15 – San Diego, CA / Quartyard (w/Christian Lopez Band)

9/11/15 – Orlando, FL / Surf Expo (event for Sanuk)

9/19/15 – Long Beach, CA / Long Beach Folk Revival / Rainbow Lagoon Park (w/Deer Tick, Smooth Hound Smith, The Tillers, and more)

10/2/15 – Long Beach, CA / TBA (w/Charlie Parr)

10/10/15 – Long Beach, CA / Downtown Beer & Wine Festival

10/17/15 – San Luis Obispo, CA / Hooligan Hoedown (sponsored by Iron & Resin)

10/30/15 – Orange County, CA / TBA (Heavy Howl album release show)

Ike Reilly’s single, “Born On Fire,” featured in Chris Farley documentary; Reilly to appear in doc talking about his friend Farley

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 7, 2015

Ike Reilly’s single, “Born On Fire,” featured in

Chris Farley documentary, “I Am Chris Farley”

Reilly to appear in documentary talking about his friend Farley

Indie rock raconteur and singer-songwriter Ike Reilly’s new single, “Born On Fire,” is featured in the forthcoming Chris Farley documentary, “I Am Chris Farley” (www.iamchrisfarley.com); the song plays in a poignant final scene and over the film’s end credits.  Reilly is also featured in the documentary talking about playing rugby with Farley and attending college with him at Marquette University. The song (which is the title track from Reilly’s seventh studio album, released on June 16, 2015 by Rock Ridge Music and Tom Morello’s new label Firebrand Records) was named one of the best songs of June 2015 by Esquire Magazine, which wrote, “this is the letter every son yearns for his father to write for him.”  “I Am Chris Farley” will see a release nationwide in theaters, and will also have its TV premiere on Spike TV on August 10, 2015 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.  The film will also be available on iTunes and DVD on beginning on August 11, 2015.  Fans can check out a trailer for the movie, which includes childhood images of Farley and Ike Reilly’s “Born On Fire” here: https://www.yahoo.com/tv/i-am-chris-farley-documentary-home-movies-i-am-126030093955.html.

“I was up in Madison with Chris’ brother Kevin, who knew I was working on a record, and I told him I had a song I thought would be appropriate for Chris,” says Reilly.  “I told him it was called ‘Born On Fire.’ It’s about not letting other people put you in a box or define you, and it also acknowledges that we all have hot, inspired qualities that often get stamped out by others. In the song, I tell my kid to take whatever fire he has straight out to the street and don’t let anyone stop you from finding or being what you aim to be or to do. Chris Farley was born on fire like nobody I’ve ever known or seen. We know he had forces that would have quelled him or dampened his fire, but he just didn’t let it happen. I’ve never been more proud to have a song in a film, especially when it’s a film about an old friend, a teammate who has evolved into a mythical, magical memory. I look back in time with Chris in cars on rainy days before rugby games, his intrusive visits into my hometown of Libertyville [IL], his explosive entrances in the Park Hyatt Hotel in Chicago where I was a doorman and of course in NYC and LA after he was really working. To have Kevin so pleased with how this song accentuates his big brother’s memory is incredibly moving.”

Since its release, press has praised the album Born On FireAmerican Songwriter said, “To say this is exciting, unpredictable, idiosyncratic American rock and roll is not to do it justice. Established cult Reilly fans might know what to expect, but even they will be thrilled with the sheer dynamic gusto and rollicking groove he unleashes. It’s pure, unaffected and raw, adjectives that have always described Reilly and result in this explosive album, the culmination of his extensive years in the trenches.”  Blurt Magazine trumpeted, “The Ike Reilly Assassination is oft compared with old school outfits like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and even Dylan, but those are your dad’s bands, and Ike frankly blows their current manifestations out of the water. If you found that too hard to swallow, then I challenge you to a Rock Off. Play a recent release from those guys, followed by Born On Fire, and see which seems the most kick-ass.”  No Depression heralded the album, saying, “Born On Fire is an eleven track ode to a time when rock and roll was rock and roll. …Ike Reilly has crafted an album that weaves in and out of the great epochs of rock… [and] Reilly manages to ground his music in the here and now – there’s a healthy bit of rustbelt gritty, grimy, realistic outlook on life to go with the grins.”

David Carr from the New York Times said, “Ike Reilly is a kind of natural resource, mined from the bedrock of music. All the values that make rock important to people—storytelling, melody, rage, laughter—are part and parcel of every Ike Reilly show I have ever seen. One of the best touring acts in the country, Reilly’s band takes it as a personal challenge to upend and amaze every room they play in.”  And in an interview with Rolling Stone, Tom Morello said, “Ike Reilly’s Born on Fire: In my view, he’s one of the best American songwriters of the last 10 years, both in delivery and lyrics. It’s, like, part Springsteen, part Replacements. And we grew up in the same hometown, Libertyville, Illinois, where Adam Jones of Tool and Marlon Brando came from as well [laughs]. There must be something in the water there, for a suburb known principally for its Buick dealership.”

About “I Am Chris Farley”:

Chris Farley lived his life full speed and committed to make everyone around him laugh out loud, and “I Am Chris Farley” tells his hilarious, touching and wildly entertaining story for the first time ever—from his early days in Madison, Wisconsin, and at Marquette University, through his work at the legendary Second City to his rapid rise to the top of the comedy world on “Saturday Night Live” and in hit films like “Tommy Boy” and “Black Sheep.” The film showcases the performer’s most memorable characters and skits from television and film, paired with iconic photographs, home movies and family snapshots, to fully round out the story of this comedy legend—a bear of a man who nevertheless had remarkable grace and physicality. Clips from Farley’s most memorable performances fill the documentary, from his breathtaking Chippendales audition alongside Patrick Swayze, to his comically ill-fated salesman in “Tommy Boy,” to his diatribes as Matt Foley, the motivational speaker who “lives in a van down by the river!”

In addition to Reilly, also sharing insights into the beloved funnyman in the documentary are such co-stars and colleagues as Christina Applegate, Tom Arnold, Dan Aykroyd, Bo Derek, Jon Lovitz, Lorne Michaels, Jay Mohr, Mike Myers, Bob Odenkirk, Bob Saget, Adam Sandler, Molly Shannon, David Spade, and others.  Network Entertainment’s film was directed by Brent Hodge (“A Brony Tale”) and directed and produced Derik Murray (“I Am Evel Knievel,” “I Am Steve McQueen,” “I Am Bruce Lee”), produced by Derik Murray and executive produced by Paul Gertz (“I Am Evel Knievel,” “I Am Steve McQueen,” “I Am Bruce Lee”), Kent Wingerak (“I Am Evel Knievel,” “I Am Steve McQueen,” “I Am Bruce Lee”) and Robert Pirooz (“I Am Evel Knievel,” “I Am Steve McQueen”).

“I Am Chris Farley” premieres nationwide in theaters.

Grace & Tony to release new album, “Phantasmagoric,” on September 25th; album embraces literary influences from Poe, Lovecraft, King

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUGUST 5, 2015

GRACE & TONY TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM, PHANTASMAGORIC,

ON SEPTEMBER 25th

Album embraces literary influences from Poe, Lovecraft, King;

blends history and fiction into songs in Southern gothic style

Husband-and-wife duo Grace & Tony are set to release their next album, Phantasmagoric (a favorite word of Edgar Allen Poe’s meaning “out of this world”) on September 25, 2015.  Featuring 10 tracks that sound as if they belong in a macabre Broadway musical, the album is rife with dramatic tales of plagues, serial killers, mass suicide, Frankenstein’s nameless creation and similar subjects so inherently theatrical that they’d be right at home in a Sondheim or Brecht-Weill classic.

The Loretto, TN-based pair recorded Phantasmagoric at Sheffield, AL (aka Muscle Shoals) recording studio Jimmy Nutt’s Nutthouse. Nutt, who co-produced the album with Tony, was recommended by Tony’s brother, John Paul White (of Civil Wars fame).  “Jimmy really pushed our limits and got the most out of us,” says Tony; that included putting the whole band together in the studio to give the album its very-much-live feel.

Embracing literary influences from Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft to Stephen King, the duo blend history and fiction into songs that share equally vivid plot and musical twists. They call their current style “Southern gothic,” and it’s the next logical musical step for a duo known for mixing punk and bluegrass on past releases, most recently on the band’s 2013 album, November.  Their current sound finds the pair exploring a classically based, yet rootsy sound; they describe it as “theatrical, dark and epic.” Their friend Andy Baxter, of Penny and Sparrow, quipped, “It’s like if Tim Burton had a folk band.” Except Phantasmagoric is far more orchestral than folk, even though it owes its storytelling sensibilities to folk and bluegrass traditions.

“I think a lot of that comes from Grace being such a fan of English murder mysteries and getting in that mindset, that regal sound,” says Tony. “When you’re writing a dark story, pairing it with something classical and proper makes it even darker.

Grace’s mother read Poe to her as a baby and introduced her to mystery books, and then murder mysteries – Nancy Drew, Elizabeth Peters (aka Barbara Michaels), Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, and old horror and monster films.  This influence is clearly evident throughout Phantasmagoric.  Take “Invitation to an Autopsy,” for instance. Grace’s crisp, distinct lyrics and mandolin enfold cello and other strings as she narrates the “Sweeney Todd”-like true story of Messrs. Burke and Hare, a pair of pre-Victorian-era gents who sold corpses for use in anatomy classes — corpses they created from living humans.

“Adam of Labour” takes the perspective of Frankenstein’s nameless creation. Tony’s clear baritone drives that melody (he also plays guitars and keyboards), aided by Grace’s mandolin and strings by bandmates Kimi Samson (first and second violin and viola) and Chris Wilson (cello, basses and sitar), who arranged the album’s intentionally dominant strings.

Tony says the dramatic “Lullaby of the Red Death,” influenced by Poe, suggested ebola to Grace, while “The Marsten Prologue” and “A Lot Dies Today” are based on King’s book, “Salem’s Lot.” The album’s first single, “The 1,” tells a story of their own imagining, about a girl and her stalker, whom she decides she wants to meet. “The 2” revisits the 1997 mass suicide known as Heaven’s Gate.  There is some leavening, however. They tell their love story in “072713,” their wedding date.

“We wanted to make something that was truly different,” Tony says. “Something memorable. We really wanted to blaze trails — and make music that we would enjoy, with lots of layers, that would be as pleasing to the mind as it is to the ear.” Phantasmagoric is full of songs intended to make listeners question everything they’ve ever known, and to remind them, says Grace, “to think, smile, laugh and even cry,” and most of all “to dream — the wonderful way you dreamed when you were a child.”  The album will be available in the digital format; CDs will also be available via the group’s website, at shows, and at select retailers.  A limited-run vinyl version will be available in November as well (via website, at shows, at select retailers).

Next up?  A book, “Grace & Tony’s Phantasmagoric Stories,” which will feature tales from each song illustrated by U.K. tattoo artist Nick Devine.  The duo plans to tour in support of the forthcoming album as well; most of the time these days they perform as a quartet (rounded out by Pete Teselsky on drums and percussion and Chris Wilson on cello).  (See tour dates below; more dates to be added soon.)

As complete as they are in the studio and on record, Humming House is fundamentally a live band.  With scarcely a tube’s worth of amplification or electricity and a drum kit of percussion distributed among the band members, they emit force on stage and demand attention.  Already this year, the band has shared stages with Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Nicki Bluhm, Parker Millsap, and The Lone Bellow. Earlier in 2015, the band played the Cayamo Cruise with the elite of Americana (including John Prine, Brandi Carlile, and Lyle Lovett).  In the past, they’ve rocked rooms of all sizes and played Forecastle Festival, Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Festival, and they opened the new Music City Roots hall in The Factory in 2014, sharing the bill with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. Huffington Post urged, “Put Humming House on your list of Must-See Acts of 2015,” and named them one of the “peak musical performers of 2014.” American Songwriter called their music “infectious and grin-inducing.”  Roughstock dubbed Humming House “darned close to perfect.”

Humming House recently signed a management deal with Corey Wagner and Johnny Gradone of Suretone Entertainment, joining their current roster which includes Fleetwood Mac, ZZ Top, Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Ben Miller Band and other up and coming bands Twin Limb and Apollo.

Evan Michaels to release “It’s About Time” on August 21st

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 17, 2015

EVAN MICHAELS TO RELEASE IT’S ABOUT TIME ON AUGUST 21st

Stillwater, OK-based country singer-songwriter Evan Michaels is set to release his new album, It’s About Time, on August 21, 2015.  It’s About Time is not just the title of Evan Michaels’ latest album; it’s the mantra that has reshaped his life’s choices and songwriting style. “I needed to man-up,” says Evan. “This album is all about me acknowledging where I have been, admitting to what I have done and knowing what I need to do to move on.”  With over 200 songs written and thousands of hours performing in front of audiences, Evan knows how to tell a story. His hard work and songwriting has garnered the supporting act roles with national star name acts Chris Young, Craig Morgan, Whiskey Myers, Jake Owen, the Zac Brown Band and Lady Antebellum.

Evan’s parents and hometown of Ponca City, OK helped make him the driven, hardworking businessman and musician he is today. “We were taught to work hard, do what’s right and if you have to feel something, do it through your music,” says Evan. “I knew for me at a very early age that I loved music and not being in music was not an option for me.”  The Michaels children each had to study piano for three years before they were allowed to pick up another instrument. Evan only wanted to play the guitar, but paid his piano study dues for three years and worked a paper route before and after school to pay for his first guitar. By junior high he had started a band that played Top 40 because he couldn’t find any players who thought country was cool. He was playing for talent contests, parties and community functions in high school and had his first professional job as a musician during his first year in college. Evan’s first paid gig was as the lead singer for the local bar’s house band at Oklahoma State University.

“Most of my songs back then were all about partying and having a good time,” says Evan. “There was a lot of fluff in my lyrics and song structure, but the music was fun and echoed my beliefs at the time.” This fun-loving, have a good time with easy hooks and simple melodies formula seemed to work well for Evan.

“I got caught up in the dream,” says Evan. “It’s fun and games until you really get snapped back into reality. For so long I was playing the part of a heartbreaker until this girl broke mine. I was a mess and couldn’t let her go or admit the problem was with me. I ignored the pain and open wounds of my messed up relationships. Then, a few years ago my mother died. All during her battle with cancer, she never wanted anyone to fuss over her. We thought she was getting better, but she didn’t let us know it was as bad as it really was. I was wrecked but never felt like I could open up or share my feelings about it. The songs on this album gave me the ability to share some of these feelings. Through my music, I know who I am, where I have been and where I’m going. I finally realized it’s about time.”

It’s About Time is a wakeup call of years hitting the snooze on the reality of who I am,” Evan says. “I can finally look back and understand that I am a product of my childhood and that’s OK. I wasn’t told ‘I love you’ and certainly didn’t feel comfortable saying it. I was blessed to be able to study music and use it to say what I want. I drove tractors and worked cattle. I broke hearts and had my heart broken. I went down some wrong roads. I made mistakes. It’s about time I own all this and move on with my life. That’s what this album is all about. I’m a singer-songwriter and I have a story to tell.”

“For me it’s all about the story,” says Evan. “That’s why I love country music. It’s real people with real stories. I want my music to tell you a story that means something to you.”

Jennell to release “Home” on August 28th; EP mixes rootsy stomp of folk music with hooks and harmonies of pop

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 1, 2015

JENNELL TO RELEASE HOME ON AUGUST 28th

EP mixes rootsy stomp of folk music with hooks and harmonies of pop

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Jennell is set to release her latest EP, Home, on August 28, 2015.  A five-song EP that mixes the rootsy stomp of folk music with the hooks and harmonies of pop, Home was recorded in Nashville and produced by Dewey Boyd Jr. at the Forty-One-Fifteen recording studio.  It’s a record about traveling across the country in search of a new home, chasing dreams, and experiencing a roller-coaster’s worth of ups and downs along the way. The driving percussion and gang vocals might evoke comparisons to the Lumineers and Mumford & Sons, but Home doesn’t really sound like them. It sounds like Jennell.

“I am so excited about the new album,” says Jennell.  “I am more excited about this than anything I have ever done.  I worked so hard on this project and was involved in every detail of making the EP, that no matter what happens, I will be proud of it. It is honest and from the heart… it is my story.”

Years before she moved to Nashville with an acoustic guitar and a catalog of melody-driven indie pop/folk songs, Jennell spent her childhood in Casper, Wyoming, where she had dreams of becoming a singer.  Performances with her high school and college choirs whet her appetite for more.  Jennell packed her bags and left for Los Angeles, kickstarting a musical career that’s earned her comparisons to Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat and KT Tunstall.

While taking grad school classes at the University of Southern California, she also began writing poetry, playing the guitar, and writing her own songs. Working with producer Dan Diaz, she wrote and recorded her debut EP, The Game, which received a boost in popularity after several songs wound their way onto cable TV shows (“Giuliana and Bill,” “E! True Hollywood Story”). After producers Patrick Bolton and Will Luke heard her sing, they hired her as a backup singer, with Jennell going on to sing harmonies for Atlantic Records recording artist Hope and Disney Channel star Roshon Fegan. Meanwhile, she continued pursuing her solo career.

After releasing Urban Cowboy and Boots N Dukes, two EPs heavily influenced by country music, Jennell decided to move to Nashville in March 2014. “Moving to Nashville was one of the best decisions I have made,” Jennell says. “I don’t regret living in LA, because I have so many great memories and it was a great learning experience, but Nashville is where I belong. Nashville has a touch of Wyoming’s small town charm, mixed with the excitement and entertainment industry of Los Angeles. It’s a perfect blend and great place for me to grow as an artist.”

Oddly enough, once she arrived in the capital of country music, she began writing songs that reached beyond the genre’s borders. Home, her first release as a Nashville resident, is her most wide-ranging collection of music to date.

“The last song on the EP, ‘Feels Like Home,’ is a perfect way for me to end the EP, because, for the first time in my life, I finally feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be,” Jennell says.  “I have worked extremely hard this past year, soul searching, writing and finding my voice as an artist and I feel ‘home.’”
