The Damnwells’ New Album Debuts at #6 on Billboard Heatseekers Chart

Tour to kick off in May

Indie rock band The Damnwells released their self-titled album on April 14th, and they’ve entered the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #6.  The Damnwells will kick off their tour in support of their new album in May (see below for full list of upcoming tour dates).  The Damnwells is the first album since 2006 to include the original band lineup.  (The original members of The Damnwells are Alex Dezen [lead vocals, guitar, piano], David Chernis [lead guitar], Ted Hudson [bass], and Steven Terry [drums/percussion].)  The album, which boasts a breathless, unapologetic, sonic rapidfire of 11 new tracks, was released via Rock Ridge Music and has been garnering press praise:

  • “It may be their best yet.” – Uncut, 8 out of 10 stars
  • The Damnwells sounds like it was self-titled for an excellent reason – without sounding like it struggles to recapture past glories, this album is a potent reminder of the virtues this band had from the start, seasoned with the experiences of almost 15 years, and it’s a welcome and satisfying return to form.” – AllMusic.com
  • “…some (ahem) damn fine songs. …Dezen has always had a gift for luring the listener in with sweetly hummable arrangements that add a spoonful of sugar to the fraught conditions his songs’ protagonists tend to find themselves facing. Perhaps more than any other songwriter of his generation, he traffics in poetry while still understanding the power of a lyric that surveys emotional wreckage with a reporter’s eye, bringing the listener the facts of the situation instead of hiding behind excuses or recrimination. …But there’s no bitterness here, just a clear-eyed willingness to accept life as it is and a determination to carry on — all woven into some of the wisest and most addictively tuneful songs you’re liable to have the privilege of listening to all year.” – Diffuser.fm
  • The Damnwells echoes the sound of a group that’s finally emerged victorious. One can only hope that the band – now reconvened and seemingly more determined than ever – can hopefully go forward and produce more albums as sturdy and as stunning as this. Fans of the band and new converts alike should certainly hold on to hopes that they will.” – PopMatters.com
  • “The Damnwells are one of the best bands in the world… Since 2000, this Brooklyn outfit has walked a line between power pop and roots rock with aplomb (with a trace or two of The Replacements thrown in for good measure). They pen songs that attach themselves to your brain through catchy choruses, and then kick your lights out with devastating lyrics. Rarely are break-up albums this complicated, stark, or unrelenting in their portrait of love gone awry; rarely can songwriters offer so many thought-provoking doses of reality within the confines of instantly memorable melodies…” – Absolute Punk
  • “…the Damnwells remain capable of making pop-rock magic…” – Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
  • “Comparing this self-titled effort to their older records would not do either justice. The Damnwells is a masterful combination of good taste and experience that only comes with time… an honest and forthright account of a man’s good and bad days…” – Under The Gun Review
  • “…a helluva record.  …this latest batch of songs is imbued not only with [Dezen’s] trademark wit and eye for human detail but also feel personal in a way that make his previous songs feel more like character sketches.  Dezen and his reunited band of brothers know how to break your heart in exactly the right way.” – Color Is Its Own Reward

In addition to releasing five studio albums (two as the duo of Dezen and Hudson), the band has shared the stage with the Fray, the Dixie Chicks, Old 97s, Cheap Trick, and Bob Dylan, among others. They were also the subject of a critically acclaimed documentary, “Golden Days.”
