FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 14, 2014

GRACE & TONY TO HIT THE ROAD WITH DOM FLEMONS

Loretto,TN-based husband-and-wife duo Grace & Tony are set to hit the road with Dom Flemons (Carolina Chocolate Drops) for a fall tour that begins in late September in Cleveland and will visit 14 cities throughout the Midwest and Northeast into October. The pair is touring in support of their latest album, November, (which was released in November of 2013), and they are also set to perform twice at the Americana Music Festival in Nashville in September. (See full tour schedule below).

Says Tony:  “We are very excited to be supporting our friend, Dom Flemons on his album launch tour. Not only is he a great guy, but a lot of fun to watch every night.”

In addition to keeping busy on the road, the pair has been filming clips for their online video series, the collaborative “Greenroom Sessions” (which launched in April 2014).  The sessions feature backstage/on the road video performances with fellow musicians of Grace & Tony songs and covers shot on an iPhone.  Partner site TheBoot.com world premieres new clips on the 1st and 15th of every month.  Past sessions have included performances with Tony’s brother, John Paul White (formerly of The Civil Wars), Malcolm Parson (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Christian Lopez, Odane Whilby, Misty Mountain String Band, Humming House, Penny & Sparrow, Black Feathers, Fireworks Over London, and Cutthroat Shamrock.

Grace & Tony, known for playing a blend of musical styles dubbed “punkgrass” (a mix of genres including punk, folk, bluegrass, and Texas swing), have headlined the historic Crockett Theater (Lawrenceburg, TN), appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and performed twice on the “Daytrotter Sessions,” as well as performed for Balcony TV, “Jimmy Lloyd’s Songwriter Showcase,” and Knoxville’s “Blue Plate Special” programs.  In addition, three of their videos (“Let You Down,” “November,” “The Chameleon” and “Resonate”) have been in regular rotation on ZUUS Country.  They’ve also scored airplay on CMT Edge and GAC.

No Depression praised the album November, saying:  “Telling universal stories about love and loss through the perspective of larger-than-life characters gives November a literary feel. Place that in the setting of a musical genre that opens up traditional forms of musical communication to the adventurous nature of punk and even a little swing, and Grace & Tony has produced an album in November that is not only a lot of fun, but provides the music lover with musical substance that demands repeat listening.”

Recently, they’ve shared the stage with folks like the Lone Bellow, Billy Joe Shaver, Misty Mountain String Band, Jim Avett, and Carolina Chocolate Drops, as well as hitting the high seas on the Cayamo music cruise, playing alongside the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Ricky Scaggs, Bruce Hornsby, and Lyle Lovett.  They performed at the  Winnipeg Folk Festival in July 2014.

MELODIME to release album on September 2nd

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 11, 2014

MELODIME TO RELEASE ALBUM ON SEPTEMBER 2nd

MELODIME, a rock band that blends haunting bittersweet melodies with emotionally rich vocals atop a bed of Southern-flavored alt rock, will be releasing its album, Where the Sinners & the Saints Collide, in a deluxe edition (with six new songs and a new band member) on September 2, 2014 via Rock Ridge Music.  With the original album fully funded by their loyal and ever-growing fan base during their “Make an album, change a life” campaign, the band is donating 100% of the profits from album sales to a non-profit foundation they started called Now I Play Along Too, which provides musical instruments and education for orphans, victims of disasters, and underprivileged kids locally and around the world.  Where the Sinners & the Saints Collide was recorded at Black Dog Sound Recording Studios outside of Atlanta, GA with producer Rick Beato (Shinedown, NEEDTOBREATHE, Charlie Mars).

“We want to do something with our lives beyond the music to show people that you don’t have to be famous to make an impact in this world,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Bradley Rhodes.  Inspired by the gift of musical instruments years ago to a family member by an anonymous person (the song “Brothers,” which is new to the deluxe edition, tells this tale in musical form), they are continuing that story and putting instruments into the hands of people who would’ve never been able to afford them.

This idea of looking outside yourself is woven throughout Where the Sinners & the Saints Collide, along with the concepts of coming together, regardless of differences, to do some good. “The album carries strong themes of redemption and has songs about picking yourself up from your boot straps, using those past mistakes and failures to make yourself a better person to help people who may be ‘lost and broken,’” says Rhodes, who adds that the theme picks up where their 2011 album 3 Reasons For Fighting left off.

Virginia-based MELODIME, whose influences growing up included rock from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s instead of what kids their age were into, began as a trio and is now a fleshed-out quartet – Bradley Rhodes (vocals, guitar), brothers Sammy Duis (piano, organ, bass) and Tyler Duis (drums), and new member Jon Wiley (guitar, vocals) – that plays upwards of 150 shows a year. They have performed up and down the East Coast, including such legendary clubs as D.C.’s 9:30 Club and N.Y.’s The Bitter End, nabbing a spot on the 2014 and 2015 The Rock Boat cruise festival with Sister Hazel, Barenaked Ladies, Tonic, Collective Soul, Edwin McCain, others, and even landing a song early in their career on FOX’s hit show, “So You Think You Can Dance.”

JD Eicher & Charlie Oxford hit the road with Joy Ike in September

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 4, 2014

JD EICHER AND CHARLIE OXFORD TO HIT THE ROAD

WITH JOY IKE IN SEPTEMBER

Labelmates JD Eicher and Charlie Oxford will be heading out on tour together with guest Joy Ike for the second half of September for a series of dates across the Midwest and East Coast (see full list of tour dates below).  Fans can expect an evening of stellar acoustic performances at venues from Chicago to Nashville and as far East as South Carolina and Delaware.

Says Eicher about the planned tour:  “Not only are Joy and Charlie great musicians, but they’re great friends. It will make for a special energy on stage and good stories from the road.”  Oxford concurs, adding, “I’m really looking forward to this upcoming tour with JD Eicher and Joy Ike.  JD and I toured together last March and it was a great time.  We made so many new fans and I know Joy will be a great addition to the group.  I think it’s really cool for singer/songwriters from completely different influences and backgrounds to tour together because it gives the crowd so much more to take in.”

Eicher, leader of the Pittsburgh, PA and Youngstown, OH-based quartet JD Eicher & the Goodnights saw the release of the third album with his band, Into Place, on September 10, 2013, via Rock Ridge Music (with distribution through ADA).  Grammy-nominated producer Dustin Burnett (who worked with the Newsboys, Augustana, Rush of Fools, Moriah Peters, Darling Parade, Dave Barnes) produced Into Place, and the band’s soaring and graceful pop-rock songcraft has garnered the group favorable comparisons to Coldplay, Keane, The Script, The Killers, and Death Cab for Cutie.  Live, JD Eicher & the Goodnights has shared a bill with such diverse and respected artists as the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Hot Chelle Rae, Pete Yorn, Anberlin, Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams, Cartel, Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson, and Matt White, among many others.

Oxford, whose self-titled album was released on March 11, 2014 (also via Rock Ridge Music with distribution through ADA), has been called “indie-rock meets pop-rock” and “versed in blues and jazz sensibilities” (InForty.com), while Innocent Words said that his album “artfully layered a taut rhythm section, slick horn lines, fat keys, dramatic strings and gritty guitars under Oxford’s boy next door voice with its Southern tinged charm.”  The Nashville-based Oxford traces a line from Sam Cooke to pop contemporaries like James Morrison and John Mayer. A highlight for him was performing on the BMI Songwriter Stage at the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans, as well as performing twice at the annual BMI Key West Songwriters Festival. His time spent in college in New Orleans—he was there when Katrina hit—was extremely influential on his musical self; both the city and the musicians there helped to shape Oxford.

Ike’s music, voice, and writing have drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones, and Fiona Apple. But her percussive piano-playing and soaring vocals give homage to her Nigerian upbringing. She has had the opportunity to share the stage and open for Jeffrey Gaines, Denison Whitmer, Cody Chestnutt, Butterfly Boucher, Tyrone Wells, Allen Toussaint, and Serena Ryder to name a few.  A write-up on NPR’s All Things Considered says, “The depth of subjects she tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop… a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small.” A recent segment on NPR’s World Cafe (December 2013) featured Ike as one of Pennsylvania’s up-and-coming artists.

JD Eicher, Charlie Oxford, Joy Ike Tour Dates:

9/16 – Chicago, IL / Abbey Pub (bar side)

9/17 – Columbus, OH / Rumba Café*

9/18 – Cleveland, OH / Mahall’s*

9/19 – Kent, OH / Kent State ‘Round Town Music Festival*

9/20 – Pittsburgh, PA / Pittsburgh Winery*

9/21 – Wilmington, DE / World Cafe Live

9/22 – Lancaster, PA/ Community Room on King

9/24 – Bluffton, SC / University of South Carolina Beaufort

9/25 – Winston-Salem, NC / Salem College

9/26 – Nashville, TN / Listening Room

*JD Eicher will be performing solo acoustic on this tour without his band except in Columbus (trio performance), and Cleveland, Kent, and Pittsburgh (full band performances).

THE SASSY, CLASSY ISABEL ROSE RELEASES NEW CD, TROUBLE IN PARADISE,

DISTRIBUTED BY BDG/RED DISTRIBUTION (A DIVISION OF SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT)

ON SEPTEMBER 16th

What happens when you toss Katy Perry, Ann-Margret and Bette Midler into a blender? You get Isabel Rose.

Backed by a large, swinging orchestra with a modern pop sensibility, Trouble in Paradise is informed by 1960s Vegas. At turns sassy and brassy, sultry and sophisticated, and always with charm, Trouble in Paradise showcases Isabel’s joyful exuberance and theatricality. Rose is a showgirl at heart and the recording features plenty of reinterpretations of American songbook and pop classics. It also features two previously unrecorded tracks including “Miracle,” written by Alan Chang (Michael Buble’s musical director and co-writer of several of Buble’s top-charting singles).

The team behind Trouble In Paradise is a veritable who’s who of music A-listers. In addition to Bob Rock’s production, Trouble In Paradise was mixed by multiple Grammy Award winner Chris Lord-Alge (Madonna, Cher, Adam Lambert, Michael Buble, Christina Aguilera, James Brown, and the list goes on). It was also mixed by the legendary, 19-time Grammy Award winner Al Schmitt. (In addition to engineering Frank Sinatra Duets album and Ray Charles’Genius Loves Company, Schmitt engineered both the Breakfast at Tiffany’s soundtrack and the original Peter Gunn, which he has mixed, once again, for Rose.)

Jessica Campbell to release “III” on October 7, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 23, 2014

Jessica Campbell to release III on October 7, 2014

With her third album, roots-pop singer/songwriter Jessica Campbell proves there’s strength in numbers.

Largely produced by Cason Cooley (Ingrid Michaelson, Katie Herzig), III captures Campbell in an adventurous mood, looking to build something new on top of the foundation that’s always anchored her music. She’s still a genre bender, with songs rooted in pop hooks, Americana influences, folk guitars and just the slightest hint of Southern twang. She’s still a storyteller, too, armed with autobiographical tunes about life and love in the Bible Belt. Even so, things have changed since her previous album, The Anchor & the Sail, which found the newly-married Campbell reflecting on a lifetime of past loves — including plenty of heartbreak and hard lessons. This time around, she’s taking stock of the sunny present.

From the bright blasts of bass and keyboards that fill III’s opening track (“Brighter Days”) to the campfire singalong that closes out the album (“My Heart Says Go”), III explores some of the most upbeat material of Campbell’s career. It’s an album by and about a happily married woman in her early 30s. There’s plenty of struggle in these 11 songs, too — despite a catalog of prime-time TV and promo placements (including Crate & Barrel, Delta Airlines, Ugly Betty, Hart of Dixie, Heartland, Melissa & Tye, and Tough Love New Orleans), a “Best Song” award from the USA Songwriting Competition and support from outlets like USA Today and American Songwriter, Campbell is still very much an independent, hardscrabble artist who runs nearly every aspect of her business — but it’s the sort of struggle that is ultimately uplifting. The sort of struggle that makes every reward seem that much more deserved. III doesn’t focus on the grind of being a cash-strapped musician. Instead, it highlights the thrill of doing what you’re meant to be doing… even if it involves driving 300 miles between shows.

“This is a very much a ‘seize the moment’ album,” she says. “It’s about dreaming… and chasing after those dreams, so you can eventually live them. It’s about being willing to try.”

It’s also about the magic found in everyday things. Take the number three, for example. Campbell is one of three children. She’s been married for three years. This year, she will turn 33 years old. She hired three producers — in addition to Cooley, with whom she has worked in the past, she also tapped Kyle Lee and Nettwerk recording artist Aaron Espe — to work on her third full-length album, the aptly titled III. When asked if the name is a reference to Led Zeppelin’s III, though, she laughs and shakes her head.

“It’s a reference to my own life,” she explains. “You either embrace where you’re at in life, or you put up a facade. I wanted this album to be more poppy and upbeat, but I also didn’t want to hide my age or my wedding ring. I think there’s something compelling about music made from that kind of honest place.”

Campbell knows a thing or two about making music in different places. Since releasing her debut album in 2009, she’s grown her audience significantly by playing more than 100 house shows. She even appeared on the syndicated radio program “Music Business Radio” in May 2013, talking about the unique business of performing in strangers’ living rooms night after night. Those house shows have tended to be quiet, stripped-down gigs, with Campbell usually performing her songs alone.

It’s that identity — the singer/songwriter sitting on a stool in someone’s home, telling stories and strumming the guitar without any outside accompaniment — that anchors III in something honest and familiar. This is Campbell’s poppiest album to date, but every song was written the old-fashioned way: with an acoustic guitar… and, occasionally, one of her friends from the Nashville songwriting community. In other words, Jessica Campbell still sounds like Jessica Campbell, even when she’s turning an old Beatles lyric on its head during the thumping, danceable “Lennon & McCartney Lied” or paying tribute to one of her earliest influences, gospel music, with the soulful “Everlasting Shore.”

The direction may be new, but the building blocks are the same. III is a songwriter’s album, dressed up with some of Campbell’s edgiest arrangements and rawest vocal performances to date. It’s an album about appreciating where you’re at, while still pushing toward a bigger, brighter, better future. It may be her best yet. The third time’s the charm.

Caleb Hawley to kick off tour in New York City on August 1st

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 22, 2014

Caleb Hawley to kick off tour in New York City on August 1st

Harlem’s Caleb Hawley is set to kick off his next tour in New York City on August 1st and plans to visit a number of cities (see full tour schedule below) in the East and Midwest throughout the fall with dates in support of his forthcoming EP release, “Side 2” (which comes out September 9, 2014).  After previously touring solo acoustic, Hawley hits the road now with a talented full band, multiplying the energy across the country. “I used to love listening rooms,” Hawley admits, “but now I pretty much just wanna get a party started.” Music Without Labels agrees, calling the stocked setup, “a fantastic show, full of danceable riffs and singalong choruses all held together by Hawley’s tremendous charisma.”

The American soul singer, songwriter and performer inhabits a musical space like savvy throwback crooners Mayer Hawthorne and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, channeling early Stevie Wonder and other Motown sounds into a complete, magnetic package. The Chicagoistsays, “The New York-based musician has a flair for soulful songwriting and a voice that will blow your hair back.”

Raised in Minneapolis by a family of preachers and therapists, Hawley’s family fueled his on-stage charisma and perceptive, witty lyrics. Hawley’s grandfather hooked him on an early Ray Charles record, leading him into the fertile soul music of the ’60s and ’70s. He spent his early 20s touring the country with only an acoustic guitar and his dog.  In those years, Hawley racked up hundreds of gigs, along with multiple songwriting awards for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Telluride Troubadour Competition, SongCircle Contest, and more.

2014 marks the release of a pair of EPs: Side 1 (January 2014) and Side 2 (September 9, 2014). Hawley says, “They are a bit different stylistically, but each share my own voice artistically and literally.” Side 1 is a time capsule from the ’60s, employing a full string section from the NY Philharmonic to capture the authentic R&B sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. Side 2 brings us to the present with beefier beats and more modern production. Hawley’s vocal swagger, his old Alabama garage-found Harmony electric guitar, and live rhythm section tie the EPs together. Lucius drummer and producer Dan Molad co-produced both with Hawley.  Fans can pre-order “Side 2” here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/side-2-ep/id897522084. Caleb Hawley to release Side 2 on September 9, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 8, 2014

Caleb Hawley to release Side 2 on September 9, 2014

Harlem’s Caleb Hawley is an American soul singer, songwriter and performer. Like savvy throwback crooners Mayer Hawthorne and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Hawley channels early Stevie Wonder and other Motown sounds into a complete, magnetic package.

Raised in Minneapolis by a family of preachers and therapists, Hawley’s family fueled his on-stage charisma and perceptive, witty lyrics. “Growing up in an a capella church, we didn’t have instruments. It forced everyone to learn how to sing harmony,” Hawley says. “We mostly sang older hymns, which is probably what drew me to gospel and eventually soul music.” Hawley’s grandfather hooked him on an early Ray Charles record, leading him into the fertile soul music of the ’60s and ’70s.

Hawley spent his early 20s touring the country with only an acoustic guitar and his dog, Fargo. “There’s no place I’d rather be than on a stage in front of people wanting to hear music I’ve created,” Hawley says. In those years, Hawley racked up hundreds of gigs, along with multiple songwriting awards for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Telluride Troubadour Competition, SongCircle Contest, and more.

Now a talented full band multiplies that energy across the country. “I used to love listening rooms,” Hawley admits, “but now I pretty much just wanna get a party started.” Music Without Labels agrees, calling the stocked setup, “a fantastic show, full of danceable riffs and singalong choruses all held together by Hawley’s tremendous charisma.” The Chicagoist says, “The New York-based musician has a flair for soulful songwriting and a voice that will blow your hair back.”

2014 marks the release of a pair of EPs: Side 1 and Side 2. Hawley says, “They are a bit different stylistically, but each share my own voice artistically and literally.”

About:

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Almost 100 percent do-it-yourself, Psychostick never strays from its signature sound, a combination of heavy music that Chimaira, Machine Head, and Hatebreed would be proud of, and wit and humor that would make Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic holler with laughter. With three full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title,” “Sandwich,” and their holiday album, “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” – the band released their latest record, “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D,” in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.

After a successful 2013 that saw these touring ninja warriors hit the road for multiple shows on the “Our Tour Can Beat Up Your Tour,” “Blow Your Fingers Off” summer tour, their late summer dates with American Head Charge plus appearances at summer fests that included Rockapalooza, A2 Fest, Breast Fest Biker Bash, and Dirtfest.  The band finally took a break in last months of the year and held a successful crowd funding campaign (thank you videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSeQHqMCfJI), where they are now currently in studio recording their follow up to 2011’s “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D.”

Dwight & Nicole confirm dates in July with Puss n Boots featuring Norah Jones

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 25, 2014

DWIGHT & NICOLE CONFIRM DATES IN JULY WITH PUSS N BOOTS FEATURING NORAH JONES

Duo also set to perform at Grand Point North Festival in September

American roots duo Dwight & Nicole (Dwight Ritcher and Nicole Nelson) have confirmed that they will join Norah Jones on tour with her latest musical endeavor, Puss n Boots (the trio also features Sasha Dobson and Catherine Popper), including stops in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, Hamden, CT, and Cambridge, MA (see full tour schedule below). Dwight & Nicole have also just been added to the lineup of the Grand Point North festival after winning a local fan voting contest. They will take the stage in Burlington, VT on September 13th alongside Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, among others.

Says Nelson:  “There is nothing like sharing the stage with talented artists who are true originals. Sasha, Norah, and Catherine have a really special thing together; their voices and influences blend to form a very distinct, beautiful sound. We got the call to join them on tour right after we heard that we landed a spot on the GPN festival—it was a pretty epic week.”

Says Ritcher:  “Things have been really opening up for us, and right now, we are exactly where we want to be—working hard, having fun, and making great music with our friends.”

Dwight & Nicole self-released their latest album, Shine On, on April 22, 2014. Shine On puts some impressive talent on display:  gorgeous vocals, developed songwriting skills, and masterful playing were all captured live at Boston’s Rear Window Studio.  Press has praised the album, saying:

  • “Dwight & Nicole’s new album ‘Shine On’ is just spectacular.” – Steve Morse, Behind the Music
  • “One might call it a hybrid of blues, folk, pop, rock, jazz and soul — and one would be right. But it’s all soul music.” – Boston Herald
  • “…their voices blend together and take wind as if they couldn’t exist any other way. That union of styles and eagerness to play off each other’s strengths is precisely what makes the duo so compelling and almost impossibly sweet.” – Seven Days
  • “…the music on ‘Shine On’ is bright and sunny.  ‘Smile’ and ‘Shine’ aren’t so much song titles as they are exhortations to be happy. Even the album’s more subdued tunes (sung by both Ritcher and Nelson) have lyrics that search for the positive in a difficult world. The music bounces from genre to genre, with pop ballads, jagged rock and vibrant reggae all vying for attention.” – Burlington Free Press

Their performances have inspired comparisons to some of the greats — Etta James and John Lee Hooker, the Rolling Stones and the Staple Singers — but it is their own fresh blend of spirited blues, rock, and gospel that will land them a spot among the celebrated music makers. Following their critically acclaimed independent release, !Signs, the Boston Globe called them, “a tour de force.”  They have garnered four Boston Phoenix award nominations, six Boston Music Award nominations and Nelson nabbed a BMA for “Female Vocalist of The Year.”

In September of 2012, Nicole appeared on NBC’s #1 hit show “The Voice,” knocking out all four coaches and winning the hearts of millions with her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” The song was a hit of its own, rising to #24 on the iTunes Pop chart, and propelling a wave of nationwide appreciation for Nelson’s home grown style.

Their music has already been featured on TV shows such as “Nikita” on CW, “The Forgotten” on ABC, “Missing” on Lifetime, and “The Cleaner” on A&E.  Dwight & Nicole starred in the documentary film “Where’s The Music At?” They have performed live at countless world class venues and festivals around the world including Montreal Jazz Festival, Tanglewood, Life Is Good Festival, Symphony Hall, The Somerville Theatre, The Tennessee Theater, The Paradise, The Higher Ground, and The Blue Note in NYC.

Dwight & Nicole have shared the stage with many other great artists including BB King, Buddy Guy, Dave Brubeck, Dr. Maya Angelou, Ray Lamontagne, Los Lobos, Alison Krauss, Martin Sexton, Levon Helm, Norah Jones, Dr. John, Natalie Cole, Winton Marsalis, The Avett Brothers, Raphael Saadiq, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Carly Simon, The Funk Brothers, Maceo Parker, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Buffet, Biz Markie, Little Richard, Angelique Kidjo, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Irma Thomas, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Grace & Tony joined by John Paul White (of The Civil Wars) for a “Greenroom Session”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 2, 2014

GRACE & TONY JOINED BY JOHN PAUL WHITE (OF THE CIVIL WARS) FOR A “GREENROOM SESSION”

Loretto,TN-based husband-and-wife duo Grace & Tony’s latest “Greenroom Session” video clip, which went live on TheBoot.com yesterday, features Tony’s brother, John Paul White (formerly of The Civil Wars) joining them on a cover of the Grace & Tony song, “November.”  Fans can view the clip here:  http://theboot.com/grace-tony-greenroom-sessions-november/.

Says Tony of performing a session with his brother:  “We were very excited to do a ‘Greenroom Session’ with John. We haven’t had nearly the amount of time to perform together as either of us would like. It was only right that we would do the song ‘November,’ as that is John’s favorite song from the November album. And 116 E. Mobile is our favorite venue in the Muscle Shoals area, so it was an easy choice as to where we would shoot.”

Grace & Tony, known for playing a blend of musical styles dubbed “punkgrass” (a mix of genres including punk, folk, bluegrass, and Texas swing), launched the collaborative  “Greenroom Sessions” series on April 1, 2014, which features backstage/on the road video performances with fellow musicians of Grace & Tony songs and covers shot on an iPhone.  Partner site TheBoot.com world premieres new clips on the 1st and 15th of every month.  Past sessions have included performances with Malcolm Parson (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Christian Lopez, Odane Whilby, and Misty Mountain String Band.

Says Angela Stefano, Editor of TheBoot.com:  “As the premier online destination for classic country, Americana and alt-country news and features, The Boot is thrilled to have The Civil Wars’ John Paul White as a guest in the newest installment of our Grace & Tony Greenroom Sessions video series. Each special guest lends something new and different to the session’s featured song, whether it’s an original Grace & Tony tune or a cover, but it’s especially fun to watch the two brothers play together on ‘November.’ We’re excited to see who shows up as the series continues!”

Grace & Tony released their full-length debut album, November, on November 11, 2013, via Rock Ridge Music.  (With distribution through ADA, the label has offices in Newark, NJ, and Nashville, TN).  They’ve headlined the historic Crockett Theater (Lawrenceburg, TN), appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and performed twice on the “Daytrotter Sessions,” as well as performed for Balcony TV, “Jimmy Lloyd’s Songwriter Showcase,” and Knoxville’s “Blue Plate Special” programs.  In addition, three of their videos (“Let You Down,” “November,” and “The Chameleon”) have been in regular rotation on ZUUS Country.  They’ve also scored airplay on CMT Edge and GAC.

No Depression praised the album, saying:  “Telling universal stories about love and loss through the perspective of larger-than-life characters gives November a literary feel. Place that in the setting of a musical genre that opens up traditional forms of musical communication to the adventurous nature of punk and even a little swing, and Grace & Tony has produced an album in November that is not only a lot of fun, but provides the music lover with musical substance that demands repeat listening.”

Recently, they’ve shared the stage with folks like the Lone Bellow, Billy Joe Shaver, Dom Flemons, and Carolina Chocolate Drops, as well as hitting the high seas on the Cayamo music cruise, playing alongside the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Ricky Scaggs, Bruce Hornsby, and Lyle Lovett.  They will also be performing at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in July 2014.  A list of confirmed tour dates is below.
