MOONSVILLE COLLECTIVE SIGNS WITH ROCK RIDGE MUSIC

Reissued album out 11/18; new album coming in Spring 2015

Orange County/Los Angeles-based Americana string band Moonsville Collective, known for its traditional mix of old time, folk, country, bluegrass, and rhythm and blues, has signed a management and label deal with Rock Ridge Music (offices in Nashville, Tennessee and Newark, New Jersey).  The band’s albums will see nationwide distribution via RRM’s distribution partner, ADA.

Says Moonsville Collective vocalist/guitarist/banjo player Ryan Welch about the deal:  “Signing with Rock Ridge is an exciting move forward for the Moonsville family.  It was a decision based on relational trust and mutual attraction.  It’s Moonsville’s first step onto the proverbial music label bridge and the Rock Ridge bridge is a sturdy one. We’re greatly anticipating the re-issuing of our last record and the release of our new album, both under the push and guidance of Rock Ridge Music.  The story begins!”

Says Rock Ridge Music CEO Tom Derr about Moonsville Collective:  “I had an immediate connection with the band, both from a work ethic and music angle, and, of course, their love of Levon Helm!”

The initial Moonsville Collective release, scheduled for November 18th, is a reissue of the band’s 2013 album, Cradle to the Grave, paired with a live EP (originally known as the Salamander Sessions) which features covers.  This will be followed by an as-yet-untitled new album still in the works, which will be released in Spring 2015.  The band has been hard at work at Ear Witness Studios in Whittier, CA, to record the new self-produced album, with Sam Knaak engineering it.  Already, the band has been playing a number of the songs on the album live, with fan favorites “Blue Money Grove,” “End of the Line,” and “Rollin’ Paradise” slated to be on the record.

“We’ve gotten into a deeper, more personal songwriting side of things on the new album,” double bass player Seth Richardson says. “The lyrics reflect a much more personal approach than any of our past songs have had.”  As with any collective, the line-up sometimes shifts, but Richardson says the core band—including himself, Welch, Corey Adams (vocals/tenor banjo/guitar), Drew Martin (percussion), Matthew McQueen (mandolin), “Dobro Dan” Richardson (slide/resonator/dobro)—plus Sean Kibler on fiddle, are the ones working on the forthcoming album in the studio.

Moonsville Collective has become an integral part of both the California surf and motorcycle cultures. With their tag line “California Goodtime” a perfect pairing with many apparel and outdoor brands, the band has twice taken part in the Outdoor Retailer Convention hosted annually in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has collaborated with and played at parties/events for brands such as HippyTree, Jansport, Matix, Iron & Resin, and Sanuk.

Moonsville Collective formed in August of 2011 and hit the ground running, playing some 250 shows throughout California, Nevada, and Utah in the two years following. Their heavy schedule allowed for them to quickly refine their craft and solidify their family mentality, which has been essential to the success of the group. They are often spoken of as embracing the sensibilities of folk legends Levon Helm (of The Band) and Bob Dylan, the high energy of Old Crow Medicine Show, and clever lyrics like those of Hank Williams and Huddy “Ledbelly” Ledbetter. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed by the local industry, and Moonsville Collective has been awarded “2013 Best Country/Americana Band” by the OC Music Awards, “2012 Best Live Band” by OC Weekly, and named “Best Bluegrass/Americana Band in Orange County” by CBS Los Angeles.

Moonsville Collective has shared the stage with acts such as Willie Watson (Old Crow Medicine Show), Donavan Frankenreiter, The White Buffalo, Wanda Jackson, Frank Fairfield, Rose’s Pawn Shop, Sean & Zander, and The Dustbowl Revival. They have been asked to headline many of the large local festivals for the cities of Long Beach, Irvine and Costa Mesa.  The band has dates scheduled for the remainder of 2014, with plans to tour heavily in 2015 in support of the forthcoming album as well.  (See below for confirmed tour dates.)

Christian Lopez Band world premieres video for “Will I See You Again” on CMT platforms

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 21, 2014

CHRISTIAN LOPEZ BAND WORLD PREMIERES VIDEO

FOR “WILL I SEE YOU AGAIN” ON CMT PLATFORMS

Americana-rock group Christian Lopez Band is world premiering their video for “Will I See You Again” exclusively on CMT platforms.  Starting on Tuesday, October 21st, fans can view the video on air on CMT Pure, as well as on CMT.com and via the CMT Artists mobile app.  Having one foot planted in the folksy, fiery twang of modern-day Americana and the other inching toward the rootsy rock & roll of early Sun Records, the West Virginia-based band just released their debut EP, Pilot, on October 14th via Blaster Records. The EP was produced by Dave Cobb (the man behind critically-acclaimed Americana albums like Jason Isbell’s Southeastern and Sturgill Simpson’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music).

Some early press feedback on the EP:

  • “Christian Lopez and his band are pioneering their own brand of Alt Folk Country Rock.” – American Songwriter Magazine / SongSpace
  • “…the group makes a spectacular first impression with their ‘Pilot’ debut EP. It’s a first-rate gathering of five tunes that offers ample evidence that Lopez is wise — and talented — beyond his years.” – Pittsburgh In Tune
  • “The namesake for the band, Christian Lopez, is only 19 years old but his music has as much wisdom to it as artists twice his age.” – Roughstock.com

Band front man Christian Lopez is growing into one of Americana’s most promising new performers and songwriters; he cites classic influences like The Band, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson.  Lopez began playing piano at 5 years old, picked up the guitar at 9 and began writing songs as a teenager. Backed by a group of local pickers, he started touring before he could legally drive and racked up a long list of accomplishments along the way, including stints on the Warped Tour and the Belk-sponsored “Modern Southern Music” tour, which found him performing pre-show on bills with Zac Brown Band and Dave Matthews Band.  The band has been on tour throughout the fall while Lopez continues writing new material for a forthcoming full-length album, set for recording in early December with Cobb once again at the production helm.

The Damnwells sign with Rock Ridge Music

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 9, 2014

THE DAMNWELLS SIGN WITH ROCK RIDGE MUSIC

New album featuring original band line-up due out in April 2015

Indie rock band The Damnwells have inked a deal with Rock Ridge Music and will be releasing a new, self-titled album featuring the original four band members in April 2015.  This is the first album since 2006 to include the original band lineup.  (The original members of The Damnwells are Alex Dezen [lead vocals, guitar, piano], David Chernis [lead guitar], Ted Hudson [bass], and Steven Terry [drums/percussion].)

Says Dezen about the label deal:  “The Damnwells are super excited to be teaming up with Rock Ridge Music for this release—a label that has shown a clear, consistent, and genuine love of the music for the last decade. It feels like a homecoming.”

Says Rock Ridge Music CEO Tom Derr about signing the band:  “The Damnwells… damn right!”

Since 2006, Dezen continued to make Damnwells records with a cast of talented musicians to fill in the blanks.  But for the forthcoming self-titled album, he and his former comrades decided to “get the band back together” for real and joined producer Salim Nourallah (Old 97s) in the studio to capture the magic.  They recorded at the intimate Tree Fort Studios in Austin, TX, where they sought, as Dezen says, to “capture as much live as possible.”

“What this record represents is four guys, 15 years, a few defeats, and a ton of tiny victories,” says Dezen. “What this record means to me is more than what you hear carved into the wax. This is about coming together. It’s about brotherhood. It’s about making music together. We have never been more excited to share anything with the fans.”  Dezen is also releasing four solo EPs via Bandcamp (https://thedamnwells.bandcamp.com) in 2014 to whet fans’ appetites for the forthcoming new Damnwells music.

Dezen and Hudson met at Bard College in 1996 and played in a string of college bands together before they both moved to Brooklyn in 2000. There they met Terry (who was fresh off a stint playing with Ryan Adams’ former band, Whiskeytown) and started jamming together.  The trio began playing shows at now-defunct clubs throughout Brooklyn and the Lower East Side of Manhattan, sometimes with various guitar players and sometimes as a three-piece.

At the end of 2000, Chernis joined them and they christened themselves The Damnwells.  The band released its first EP (PMR) in 2001, then signed to Epic Records and released Bastards of the Beat in 2003.  The follow-up, Air Stereo (which was the last album featuring the original line-up), was recorded for release on Epic but was instead picked up and released by Rounder Records in 2006. “Golden Days,” the single from Air Stereo, was a top 20 Triple A charting song and was also the name of a documentary film about the band released in 2007. Over the years, The Damnwells toured relentlessly, sharing stages with The Fray, the Dixie Chicks, Old 97s, Cheap Trick, and Bob Dylan, to name a few.

The Damnwells’ next release, One Last Century (2009), featured Hudson and Dezen and was given away for free via Paste magazine’s website.  It was followed by the fan-funded record, No One Listens to the Band Anymore, which came out in 2011.

Fun facts about Psychostick

“The opening set by Psychostick — a band best known in Kansas City for its 98.9 The Rock staple “Beer!” — was deeply amusing. Heavy metal is ripe for parody, and the jokers in the Arizona band mercilessly mock the genre’s inherent silliness. Psychostick’s presence reflected the night’s theme of good, dirty fun.” – Kansas City Star

“”The grooves are infectious and easy to nod along to”- Metalunderground.com

“”Psychostick continues to be the most fun band in rock’n’roll with “Sandwich,” twenty-four tracks that will have you banging your head while you laugh your ass off at the same time.” – RoughEdge.com

“I found myself laughing out loud, track after ridiculous track, eager to hear what nonsense was to follow.” – Metal-Rules.com

“If you like humorous metal like Polkadot Cadaver you might just laugh yourself to death by this new album (Space Vampires vs Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D by Psychostick. It’s actually very like a comedy show on metal music. Totally awesome and insane.” –MetalLikey

“A crazy musical storm truly one of the most entertaining and energetic show’s we’ve covered in a long time and most defiantly the most humorous!” – OrlandoBands.com

“Do you want to metal? Psychostick wants to metal. On their newest, heaviest and funniest effort Sandwich, the clowned princes of humorcore metal their mad-hatted heads off.” – HeavyMetal.About.com

“Listening to a Psychostick album is like eavesdropping on college bros riffing on each other or just jamming in their garage.” –ThatDevilMusic.com

“When listening to a Psychostick album, you can usually expect two things: outstanding guitar riffs and hooks and then, and most importantly, you can almost always expect to laugh…at least once or twice.” –TheFrontReport.com

“Psychostick is notorious for a few things, two of which being off-the-wall album titles (2003’s We Couldn’t Think of a Title” and 2009’s Sandwich) and hilarious lyrics meshed with face-melting instrumentals.” –TheFrontRowReport.com

“…the Weird Al Yankovic of Metal.” – examiner.com

“…the more you listen, the funnier and harder it becomes.” – rocknycliveandrecorded.com

“It’s a magical moment when you see a band doing exactly what they love to do.” –TheRealAtlanta.com

“Psychostick wrapped more amazingness into about 35 minutes than I have ever really seen in concert.” – behindthehype.com

“Psychostick may come off as idiot savants considering a lot of what they sing about are everyday common crap such as oranges, hoagies, salsa and taking showers, but the Texas taco munchers who once released an album called We Couldn’t Think of a Title in 2006 are smarter than you think.” – The Metal Minute

“Psychostick release another solid album with over-the-top hilarity.” Sputnik Music – Review of Sandwich

With three full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title,” “Sandwich,” and their holiday album, “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” – the band released their latest record, “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D,” in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.

After a successful 2013 that saw these touring ninja warriors hit the road for multiple shows on the ‘Our Tour Can Beat Up Your Tour’, ‘Blow Your Fingers Off’ summer tour, their late summer dates with American Head Charge plus appearances at summer fests that included Rockapalooza, A2 Fest, Breast Fest Biker Bash, and Dirtfest.  The band finally took a break in last months of the year and held a successful crowd funding campaign (thank you video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSeQHqMCfJI), where they recorded their follow up to 2011’s ‘Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs In 3D’.

UK split in early 2013, but band members Neil Starr (guitar/vocals) and Will Davies (bass) wasted no time in forming States and Empires with Evita drummer Johno Fisher.  They are set to release a three-song EP, Revolution, in the United States on October 7, 2014 via Rock Ridge Music.  The three songs (“Revolution,” “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and “Say Anything”) also appear on the forthcoming album, Freedom (which will see an early 2015 U.S. release), and serve as a taste of what’s to come from this trio.  Influenced by early ’90s grunge, States and Empires manages to seamlessly blend instantly memorable, melodic hooks with pummeling drums and massive guitar riffs that have the capacity to pack as much of a punch in an arena as they do in a club.

Says Starr of the new band:  “We became a three-piece, which has made a big difference to the recording process. The songs, we think, are a lot more stripped down and raw, both live and on the record. From the shows we have done so far, people are comparing us to Nirvana, which for us is insane as we love that band.  We are happy that people are into it.”

To work on the material for Revolution and Freedom, the band locked themselves in a rehearsal room in Taffs Well in South Wales until they had an album’s worth of material.  The songs were recorded partly in Cardiff, Wales and partly in Florida with producer Stuart Richardson (ex Lostprophets, now No Devotion). The forthcoming album was named Freedom as a reflection to the current state of the band:  the musicians feel they can do what they want since they’re not tied down to any management, booking agents, or exclusive record label.

“It’s been really refreshing to be able to have total control in what we do,” says Starr of the DIY mentality they’ve embraced.  “Of course it means we have to put a lot of time into preparations and organizing, but right now we are happy to be in this situation.”

UK-based Über Röck wrote early praise for the forthcoming States and Empires music, saying that “the… tracks on offer have taken the shiniest, most valuable parts of Attack! Attack! [UK] (and Starr’s other band, Dopamine) and reworked them, seemingly by having them fawned over by cherubs and kissed by angels, such is the gorgeous nature of most of them.  That’s not to say that this… is a sickly sweet medicine that’ll make you feel good for a while then let you fall back into the abyss: no… as hook-laden as it is, is a thorn on a rose cutting, a sugarcoated arsenic capsule, melody-soaked melancholy that never lets you forget that you’re, we’re, teetering on the brink, and that life has teeth.  …Want the negatives? Well, there are none.”

The recordings were funded by the band itself, and the CD/LP was financed by a successful Kickstarter campaign. States and Empires then teamed up with Rock Ridge Music and White Russian Records to help them give the album the release a great heavy rock record deserves.  To support the release of the album in Europe this fall, States and Empires are embarking on a 30-date European tour in September and October 2014.  All of the shows in the UK will be free for fans.

The band’s blistering live performances have already created a huge buzz across mainland Europe with the band racking up over 50 live gigs by early 2014, including two sold-out tours with Californian pop-punks Zebrahead. Their German fanbase in particular earned them a place on John Coffey’s tour at the end of April in 2014.

Revolution, and the forthcoming album Freedom, are the follow-up to their four-track EP, Giants, which was released outside of the United States to critical acclaim. “We are really excited to put this music out there and to hear the reaction of the fans,” says Starr.  “We have been writing and recording for this band for over 18 months now, so it will be a great day when the music is finally released in the United States.”

ISABEL ROSE RISES ON THE ADULT CONTEMPORARY CHART

New York City Cutting Room Album Release Show Set For September 16th

There’s certainly no trouble with Isabel Rose’s new album, Trouble in Paradise!  The title track, also called “Trouble in Paradise,” moved from #60 to #42 with a bullet this week on the Mediabase Adult Contemporary radio chart.

Produced by legendary Bob Rock, and inspired by a time when America was aglow by Kennedy’s Camelot by day, and lit by the lights of Rat Pack Vegas by night, Trouble in Paradise delivers thirteen tracks that are infectious, charming and completely refreshing.

To celebrate the album on its release date—September 16th—Rose will perform that evening in her hometown of New York City at The Cutting Room.  According to The Nation, fans can expect, “a killer band and an unforgettable chick singer.” Long Island Press describes her live show as:  “’60s style, Vegas cabaret pizzazz and lots and lots of swingy-pop-jazz.”

Press has already been showering Rose with praise for Trouble in Paradise.  The Nation calls the album “a unique mixture of styles… a thoroughly charming experience.  …Produced by Bob Rock and backed by a big Vegasy orchestra, she breathes new life into some wonderful songs that you may not have remembered that you love.”

East Hampton Star proclaims:  “The album’s lush orchestration recalls artists like Michael Buble… and Diana Krall, whose recordings are recorded and mixed by [Al] Schmitt. A 19-time Grammy Award winner, Mr. Schmitt mixed the original ‘Peter Gunn’ for Henry Mancini, and has done it again for Ms. Rose on ‘Trouble in Paradise.’”

Trouble In Paradise (distributed by BDG/RED, a division of Sony Music Entertainment), will be available on iTunes and Amazon and from select distributors starting September 16, 2014.

Cody Joe Tillman & The Wicked Truth to release album on September 23rd

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CODY JOE TILLMAN & THE WICKED TRUTH TO RELEASE ALBUM ON SEPTEMBER 23rd

Showcasing a musical fusion of Americana, Triple A, Funk, Blues, Texas Country, and Alternative Rock, Cody Joe Tillman & The Wicked Truth creates music that forces us to savor the deepest darkest parts of our souls – eerie in one note and colorful in the next.  A haunting namesake – about how the truth can often be something that we either don’t want to hear or tell – Cody Joe Tillman & The Wicked Truth is set to release its self-titled album (on September 23, 2014), which was recorded at Rivergate Studios in Hendersonville, TN, and produced by Chris Henderson of 3 Doors Down.

“I’ve listened to Chris and 3 Doors Down’s music a lot over the years, and even covered a few of their songs at times,” says Tillman.  “Chris is as cool as they come, and did everything to encourage me and push me to be better in the studio.  He could hear what I should have been singing already in a few of the songs, and knew just how to tell me to get the notes he, and ultimately I, wanted and could be extremely proud of.  We had 11 days to do 11 songs from start to finish.  We actually worked till the last possible second before our flight left to take us back to Texas.”

Says Henderson of working with Tillman: “I was drawn to Cody’s style as a person before I heard his music.  Once I had listened to his music, I knew I wanted to work with him.  He was a producer’s dream.  Diverse, confident, and, man, what a voice!”

In addition to Henderson’s production mastery, the album also benefitted from current 3 Doors Down lead guitarist Chet Roberts’ input behind the boards, as well as his contributions on both vocals and guitar. “Chet’s lead on ‘No Approval’ could not be any more perfect,” says Tillman.  “It’s high-speed from go and has a part where it feels and sounds like he’s changing gears on the guitar. I remember screaming profanities out loud when it happened because I was so excited.”  Also contributing drum parts to the album was 3 Doors Down’s current drummer, Greg Upchurch.  From the low, gritty, earthy tone of “See You Around,” to the killer bass line of “Sunday Funday” (compliments of Glen Ackerman), to the simple yet stunning “Soldier Song” (written will Tillman was overseas in the Army right before he crossed the border into Iraq), the album is chock full of many musical flavors, each as interesting as the next.

Tillman, who has been singing “since he was old enough to talk,” watched his father play guitar at home, played in the church band and spent considerable time with his cousin, Mike “Mo” Land, who was in two different Southern rock bands (Second Helping and Justin Time). Picking up the guitar at 12, Tillman penned his first song at the age of 15.  Taking note of his talent, an uncle enrolled him in New School for the Arts in Arizona. Joining the Army later, he played for comrades in Iraq and won more than a talent show; Tillman is a decorated veteran, put in for a bronze star and receiving an Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device.  Returning home a changed man, Tillman went through rough times personally. As his marriage fell apart, he lashed out for a period of time by turning to fighting and drugs before a musical reprieve put him back on track.
Loaded with inspiration, Tillman’s struggles came to life through music and he became the voice of two bands, BLOWN and DRIVEN. Signed to an indie label in Austin, BLOWN shared the stage with Bob Schneider and Push Monkey and made numerous appearances on Austin’s Infynit Hour TV Program. When that didn’t pan out, he returned to Houston, where good friend “Mean” Gene Kelton (Texas Blues Hall of Fame member) introduced Tillman to his sons, Sid and Jamie, who joined forces to form DRIVEN. Between the two gigs, Tillman appeared on Season 5 of America’s Got Talentwhere he truly learned what musical direction he was destined for, with his lyrical truths told in a style shadowing the legends of his influences: Scott Wieland (Stone Temple Pilots), Layne Staley (Alice In Chains), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden & Audioslave), and Jim Morrison.

Consisting of Tillman, longtime friend Casey Jouette (lead guitar), former BLOWN members Austin Krecz (drums, percussion) and Michael Alcayde (bass), as well as Justin Kociban (keys, guitar), the current lineup banded together in 2011.

Christian Lopez Band signs with Blaster Records; new EP to be released in October

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHRISTIAN LOPEZ BAND SIGNS WITH BLASTER RECORDS

New EP, Pilot, to be released on October 14th

Having one foot planted in the folksy, fiery twang of modern-day Americana and the other inching toward the rootsy rock & roll of early Sun Records, the West Virginia-based Christian Lopez Band is ready to make a lasting mark. Recently signed to Blaster Records, the band is set to release their debut EP, Pilot, on October 14th.

At 19 years old, front man Christian Lopez is growing into one of Americana’s most promising new performers and songwriters.  Lopez sought out and signed a management deal with Rock Ridge Music at the end of 2013, who in turn, immediately played the initial demos for Blaster Records President, Derek Simon.  In old school style befitting an artist who cites classic influences like The Band, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson, a deal was struck after the first listen.

“The decision to sign Christian practically made itself,” says Blaster Records President Derek Simon.  “He’s such a special talent and his poise and presence make it easy to forget just how young he is.  There’s a shared vision between Christian, his management and our team and it just makes sense for us to be working together.”
Things kicked into high gear after bringing on producer Dave Cobb (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/producer-profile-dave-cobb-20140723), the man behind critically-acclaimed Americana albums like Jason Isbell’s Southeastern and Sturgill Simpson’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. A window in the producer’s busy schedule allowed Lopez to get into Cobb’s Nashville studio in April 2014 to record Pilot, a five-song EP that also highlights bandmate Chelsea McBee, an old-time banjo picker.

“Blaster Records truly believes in me, and that’s really the greatest thing an artist could ask for in a label,” says Lopez.  “I’m very proud and excited to be working with Blaster, and the work we’ve done so far has felt very natural and very right. They are passionate about music and have made the songs that I’ve carried with me for my entire lifetime actually come to life.”

Armed with their first label release and a passionate team behind them, the band will remain on tour throughout the fall while Lopez continues writing new material for a forthcoming full-length album.
