Hannah Miller to release self-titled album on May 5th

HANNAH MILLER TO RELEASE SELF-TITLED ALBUM ON MAY 5TH

Album punctuated by left-of-center pop, raw Americana, eclectic/electrified indie folk

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Hannah Miller is set to release her self-titled album on May 5, 2015.  Recorded at Nashville’s Sputnik Sound with producer Mitch Dane after the birth of her first child, the record captures Miller in transition, moving away from the coffeehouse-friendly songs that filled her previous releases in favor of something louder, livelier and more indebted to the sweep and swell of a full backup band.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this record,” Miller says.  “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so happy to release something that is really reflective of my growth over the last few years—both artistically and personally.”

On the self-titled Hannah Miller, there is a new emphasis on electric guitar, keyboards, and, occasionally, the moody, reverb-heavy arrangements of artists like Chris Isaak and Lana del Rey.  Miller’s songs are still rooted in the classic sounds of the songwriters she grew up with—Tom Petty, Simon & Garfunkel, even the Ohio-based folk duo Over the Rhine—but their presentation has changed.

“We didn’t want anything to sound too shiny,” Miller says of the album.  “It’s more raw than mainstream pop. Bluesier. Crunchier.”

One song on the album, “Promise Land,” became a viral hit, thanks to a YouTube video created by “60 Minutes” cameraman Danny Cooke. The video hit the internet in late 2014, combining footage of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster—which Cooke had filmed for a TV special coinciding with the Chernobyl catastrophe’s 25th anniversary—with a 30-second clip of Miller’s song. The video racked up more than 11 million views within three months, kickstarting a new wave of popularity for the songwriter it highlighted.  Some of her songs have been featured on television shows like “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Following,” and “Pretty Little Liars.”

For years, Miller spent much of her time on the road, playing shows with artists like Langhorne Slim and Elizabeth Cook one minute and headlining her own gigs the next.  She was a storyteller, taking details from her own life—which included a childhood spent in Alabama, a musical coming-of-age in South Carolina, and an eventual move to Tennessee—and rolling them into her songs.  To cut costs, she often played alone, relying on little more than the acoustic guitar and her voice to hold an audience’s attention.  Something changed during late 2012, though. Miller wanted to experiment, to make music that moved.  Once her baby boy arrived, she became a bit more fearless.

“It makes you more confident to try new things,” she says of parenthood. “Your perspective changes a bit, and in a lot of ways, you overcome your inhibitions. It makes you willing to try new things, even if they fail.  For the first time ever, I didn’t focus on just the songwriting. That was the foundation, but we also focused on the treatment of each song, the arrangement, the presentation. I wanted to be bold, and not worry about whether or not I could play the songs alone, with an acoustic guitar, in somebody’s living room.”

McKenzies Mill signs management deal with Rock Ridge Music

McKenzies Mill Signs Management Deal With Rock Ridge Music

Country duo to enter studio in March, New Voice Entertainment set to produce EP

Nashville-based country duo McKenzies Mill (composed of brothers Justin and Ryan Harris), known for their “Southern fried rock ’n roll,” has signed a management deal with Nashville music company Rock Ridge Music.  They join the existing management roster which includes Christian Lopez Band, Grace & Tony, JD Eicher, Moonsville Collective, Riley Etheridge Jr., and Ike Reilly.

Says Justin Harris about the management deal:  “We couldn’t be more excited about our recent signing with Rock Ridge. To be able to work with industry vets like Tom Derr and Cynthia Cochrane is exactly what we feel we need. On top of being great at what they do, they are awesome people who are driven to make things happen and help us take our careers to the next level.”

Says Rock Ridge Music CEO Tom Derr about the deal with McKenzies Mill:  “Two great guys, many great songs, and a strong work ethic… why would we not bring that into our world!”

McKenzies Mill is scheduled to go into Soundstage Studios in Nashville in March with New Voice Entertainment set to produce their EP.  New Voice is the production company formed by Rich Redmond, Tully Kennedy, Kurt Allison, and David Fanning, and NVE’s production credits include Thompson Square, Katie Armiger, and Parmalee.

Says Ryan Harris about the deal with New Voice:  “We knew right away after sitting down with these guys that this was the perfect fit for us. There are a ton of talented people in Nashville so you really have to be aware of that ‘it’ factor, and these dudes have ‘it!’ After many production meetings with several different producers, we looked at each other right away after sitting down with NVE and knew we had found the right guys to cut our upcoming EP! These guys have a very artistic point of view. They live it, just as we do, and can truly relate to what it means to be on stage, on the road, constantly creating.”

Says New Voice Entertainment:  “McKenzies Mill is the kind of artist you can’t wait to produce. They have a clear vision of what they are and what their identity is.  High energy on the stage and in the studio! McKenzies Mill is the real deal.”

“This upcoming project is huge for us,” adds Justin. “Our sound has woven its way around country, rock, and a lot of different things over the years. We couldn’t feel better about what we have been writing recently, and we can’t wait to share it with the world!”

McKenzies Mill has previously released two albums, “One Hell of a Ride” and a self-titled album. In addition to being named a CMA Band to Watch by CMA Close-Up magazine in 2014, the duo also won Bud Light’s National Battle of the Bands in 2012.  Originally from West End, NC, the pair of brothers—who named the band after the street they grew up on—now calls Nashville home. Known for, according to Justin, “country songs with some screaming guitar solos,” their music is also highlighted by undeniable sibling harmonies. “Since we’re brothers, there is a pure, unrelenting honesty between us which definitely comes through in our writing. This gives us such a unique, natural thing when we sing and create music together.”

Their live show has won over rock and country fans all across the nation. “Singing together on stage feels like home to us,” says Ryan. “Everything we write has to go for a little live ‘test drive.’ If a song doesn’t have an impact on our fans in a live setting, it doesn’t make the cut. Energy is the key to our show.”

“We enjoyed meeting Kacey Musgraves and her band this year on the Cayamo Cruise,” says Humming House vocalist/percussionist Leslie Rodriguez.  “She’s a tremendous songwriter and performer and we are really excited to join her ‘Same Tour Different Trailer’ tour out West.”

As complete as they are in the studio and on record, Humming House is fundamentally a live band.  With scarcely a tube’s worth of amplification or electricity and a drum kit of percussion distributed among the band members, they emit force on stage and demand attention. They’ve rocked rooms of all sizes and played Forecastle Festival, Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Festival, and they opened the new Music City Roots hall in The Factory in 2014, sharing the bill with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. Earlier in 2015, the band hit the road for several dates with St. Paul & The Broken Bones and played the Cayamo Cruise with the elite of Americana (including John Prine, Brandi Carlile, and Lyle Lovett).  Huffington Post urged, “Put Humming House on your list of Must-See Acts of 2015,” and named them one of the “peak musical performers of 2014.” American Songwriter called their music “infectious and grin-inducing.” Roughstock dubbed Humming House “darned close to perfect.”

The Damnwells’ new album set for April 14, 2015 release; new album features original band line-up

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 27, 2015

The Damnwells’ new album set for April 14, 2015 release

New album features original band line-up

Tour planned in support of forthcoming album
Indie rock band The Damnwells will be releasing a new, self-titled album featuring the original four band members on April 14, 2015 (via Rock Ridge Music).  This is the first album since 2006 to include the original band lineup.  (The original members of The Damnwells are Alex Dezen [lead vocals, guitar, piano], David Chernis [lead guitar], Ted Hudson [bass], and Steven Terry [drums/percussion].)
Since 2006, Dezen continued to make Damnwells records with a cast of talented musicians to fill in the blanks.  But for the forthcoming self-titled album, he and his former comrades decided to “get the band back together” for real and joined producer Salim Nourallah (Old 97s) in the studio to capture the magic.  They recorded at the intimate Tree Fort Studios in Austin, TX, where they sought, as Dezen says, to “capture as much live as possible.”
In early 2013, Dezen was keen to make another record. He’d spent two years writing and co-writing songs for and with others (Justin Bieber, the Dixie Chicks, Dave Grohl, Gary Louris of The Jayhawks, Jason Derulo, Christina Perri, Genevieve Schatz of Company of Thieves, and Kelly Clarkson, to name a few). “Writing songs for other people definitely made me pretty hungry for going out and writing some songs for myself,” Dezen says. To kick-off work on a new album, for the first time in The Damnwells’ career Dezen enlisted the help of some of the other songwriters he had met and worked with.  Most notable was Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars, Switchfoot) with whom he wrote the song “Wreck You,” as well as “Heavy Heart,” which was co-written with Eric Rosse (Tori Amos, Sara Bareilles). Nine additional songs round out the musical offerings on The Damnwells.
“What this record represents is four guys, 15 years, a few defeats, and a ton of tiny victories,” says Dezen. “What this record means to me is more than what you hear carved into the wax. This is about coming together. It’s about brotherhood. It’s about making music together. We have never been more excited to share anything with the fans.”  The band plans to tour in support of the forthcoming album (see tour schedule below).
The first stirrings of what would become The Damnwells occurred when Dezen and Hudson met at Bard College in 1996 and played in a string of college bands together before they both moved to Brooklyn in 2000. There they met Terry (who was fresh off a stint playing with Ryan Adams’ former band, Whiskeytown) and started jamming together.  The trio began playing shows at now-defunct clubs throughout Brooklyn and the Lower East Side of Manhattan, sometimes with various guitar players and sometimes as a three-piece.

At the end of 2000, Chernis joined them and they christened themselves The Damnwells. The band released its first EP (PMR) in 2001, then signed to Epic Records and released Bastards of the Beat in 2003.  The follow-up, Air Stereo (which was the last album featuring the original line-up), was recorded for release on Epic but was instead picked up and released by Rounder Records in 2006. “Golden Days,” the single from Air Stereo, was a top 20 Triple A charting song and was also the name of a documentary film about the band released in 2007. Over the years, The Damnwells toured relentlessly, sharing stages with The Fray, the Dixie Chicks, Old 97s, Cheap Trick, and Bob Dylan, to name a few.
The Damnwells’ next release, One Last Century (2009), featured Hudson and Dezen and was given away for free via Paste magazine’s website.  It was followed by the fan-funded record, No One Listens to the Band Anymore, which came out in 2011.  Dezen also released four solo EPs via Bandcamp (https://thedamnwells.bandcamp.com) in 2014 to whet fans’ appetites for the forthcoming new Damnwells music.
The Damnwells Tour Schedule:
5/8 – New York, NY / Irving Plaza (ticket link)
5/10 – Atlanta, GA / Shaky Knees Festival (ticket link)
5/14 – St. Louis, MO / The Firebird (ticket link)
5/15 – Chicago, IL / Double Door (ticket link)

About:

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US of A, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Now residing in Chicago, IL, with four full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title” (2006), their holiday album “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” (2007), “Sandwich” (2009),  and “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D” (2011), the almost 100 percent do-it-yourself laugh factory Psychostick returns with their signature sound (Chimaira, Machine Head and Hatebreed sexing Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic) to showcase their latest offering, the crowd funded album “IV: Revenge of The Vengeance” (fan thank you video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSeQHqMCfJI) which came out on November 4, 2014. Featuring a hilarious track listing that includes previously released singles the beard anthem “Obey The Beard” and popular “Dog Like Socks,” plus new tracks such as “Quack Kills,” “So. Heavy,” “Blue Screen,” and a tribute to the 21st century’s most beloved action super hero, “Bruce Campbell.” Psychostick are crazy to share with fans many more comedy sing-a-longs on the road and more!

R.I.Y.L. = Dethklok, Bloodhound Gang, Tenacious D, System of a Down, Weird Al Yankovic, Primus, Stephen Lynch, Iwrestledabearonce, Mr. Bungle,  Austrian Death Machine

“In a genre with a lot of anger, aggression and seriousness, every once in a while some levity is good. That’s where Psychostick come in. Their fourth album IV: Revenge Of The Vengeance is musically solid and lyrically amusing.” – Heavy Metal – About.com

“Humorcore band Psychostick is like the Jerry Seinfeld of metal. On its fourth full-length release, IV: Revenge of The Vengeance, the band’s sound invokes similarities too oddball artists such as Mr. Bungle, GWAR, Primus, Green Jello, Scatterbrain and Austrian Death Machine, to name a few. On its 21 ridiculous tracks (including various short skits between songs), the band explores its brand of observational comedy mixed with brutal breakdowns. The band exceeds expectations by parodying popular culture, relationships and binge drinking.” – Bravewords

“Psychostick pulls the pin from a hand grenade and shoves it down the gullet of comedy. When it explodes, anyone within earshot finds themselves covered in the entrails of hilarity! These guys are off-the-chart insane. Imagine if the cast of ‘Jack*ss’ formed a metal band with Andy Samberg, Sam Kinison, and Seth Rogen and then they threw a house party that made ‘Project X’ look like amateur hour by comparison. Yeah, now you’re getting it!” – Axs

“I do like when bands like Pyschostick inject humour into songs and REVENGE OF THE VENGEANCE is pretty damn funny…The first single ‘Obey The Beard’ is magnificent and this is coming from a clean-shaven dude. It made me want to grow one. Comedy Metal fans can listen for a couple of inside Metal jokes (Captain Stupid!) and a cameo by ‘snaky’. The production is immaculate and as always these guys are as heavy as hell. Weird Al on crack. I wanted to use that phrase and I couldn’t even think how to work it into this review so I just dumped it here at the end. Humour is so subjective but I know what I like and I really like IV: REVENGE OF THE VENGEANCE.” – Metal Rules

“IV: Revenge of the Vengeance isn’t just a Psychostick album, it’s a Psychostick experience. They really went all out on this album. Not all of it makes sense and some of it may be a little over the top, but that’s what makes this band so great- they aren’t afraid to push the envelope of ridiculousness. In fact, they bask in it. Get ready, world. Get ready for the revenge of the vengeance and one of the most action-packed metal albums ever concocted. Rating: 9/10” – Front Row Report

“The creator of ‘Humorcore’ knock one out of the fucking park with this one (IV: Revenge of The Vengeance). If you’re in a band trying to do parody and funny Metal songs stop right now, you’re just embarrassing yourself, you will not be able to dethrone Psychostick. ” – Rock Hard Place

“In ‘IV: Revenge of The Vengeance’ you have more craziness and beard than ever before, weighing in at a whopping twenty one beard bending tracks of strictly tongue in cheek craziness and general insanity with song titles ranging from ‘NSFW’, ‘Quack Kills’, ‘Loathe Thy Neighbor’ and the previously unleashed  ‘Dogs Like Socks’ and ‘Obey The Beard’ as well as a cover of Kenny Loggins ‘Danger Zone.’ Add a couple of cameos from Bill Manspeaker, the founder of Green Jello and you can imagine the types of craziness that is unleashed once play is pressed. Simply put, ‘IV: Revenge of The Vengeance’ is beardtastic and in the words of Psychostick ‘Obey The Beard’.” – Firebrand After Darkness Mag

“Make no mistake about it – these guys rock first and foremost, especially on this album’s standouts, the anthemic ‘Obey the Beard,’ as well as ‘Dogs Like Socks,’ which explores the complexities of canine/hosiery relations.” – Erie Reader

“There are so many little things that make this more than your run-of-the-mill laugh and enjoy album. For example, in the lyric book, for the song ‘Choking Hazard,’ it simply displays the pamphlet image of what to do in  the event of someone choking. This unpredictable, jokey style they incorporate spills over into their live show and after four albums, they show no wear and tear in their funny bone and no signs of decelerating those head banging riffs. I could ramble a little more, but you’re better off experiencing this yourself. So go buy it already.” – Media Mikes

“This new album features twenty-one tracks of skits and songs that will make you listen to it until you can catch all the references from pop culture, the metal scene, and moments of ‘did he just say what I think he said?’ With the fast paced musings of being stalked by a water fowl in ‘Quack Kills’ to ‘NSFW’ that will never see airplay on your local radio station, the album covers a wide range of subjects in its lampooning. It is no wonder their fans, that have had three albums to delight them in metal geekiness and humor, have waited anxiously for this new release.” – National Rock Review

“Psychostick is not a metal parody band; they are a great metal band with funny songs. ‘IV: Revenge of the Vengeance’ starts off with a movie style trailer that sets you up for the insanity that will follow. There are songs about Anatidaephobia  (which is the irrational fear that one is being watched by a duck), Bruce Campbell , and even a song the gives accurate information on how to help someone that is choking. The album also has some skits that introduce songs, my favorite being the one that introduces the song ‘So Heavy’ in which the band tries to tune to H flat.” – Extreme Metal TV

“How f*ck the Psychostick haven’t played in the UK recently I don’t know, I know so many people who love them here. The album is fierce and hilarious,, it remains a thrashy, compact masterpiece with chunky breakdowns and enriched madness. ” – Music Review Database

“Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Okay, give me a moment. I’m still chuckling every time I think of Psychostick’s latest 21 track album Revenge of the Vengeance. Every moment on it is filled with hilarity, from marrying beards, being afraid of ducks and then saving a crowd of people from a dimensional time portal. And I thought I’d heard it all…Tenacious D were the kings of comedy metal, but Rize of the Fenix has made it look like they’ve reached their hay day, as much as I love them. The king’s crown has to go somewhere, and for an album like this, it looks like Psychostick are next in line for the throne.” – Rock Revolt Magazine

Attitude is the perfect example of how we combine Nashville with ballet, by bringing together fine arts and the contemporary music that makes this Music City,” Nashville Ballet’s Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling said. “This year’s lineup adds another layer with the creation of visual art live on stage.”

Says Jones of the opportunity to perform the piece again:  “Collaborating with Gina and the Nashville Ballet in 2013 was one of the most inspiring and rewarding experiences of my career. I can’t wait to do it all again.”

In addition to the Nashville Ballet show, Jones plans a number of dates in March throughout the Southeast and Midwest (see tour schedule below).

Matthew Perryman Jones has a voice that calls out with intensity, truth and emotion. As American Songwriter describes, “Matthew’s voice ensnares listeners with a rare authenticity and gritty strength.”  He began his career in 1997 in Decatur, GA, then moved to Nashville to pursue music full-time.  His first solo album, Nowhere Else But Here, was released in 2000, followed by Throwing Punches In The Dark (2006), Swallow The Sea (2008, which featured the break-out hit “Save You”), Until the Dawn Appears (2011), and Land Of The Living (2012).  Performing Songwriter Magazine noted Jones as a talent that follows “in the footsteps of Leonard Cohen and John Lennon.”

One of the most sought-after songwriters in Nashville, Jones built on his accomplishments with his 2013 single, “Anymore Of This.”  The duet, written and recorded with Mindy Smith, was featured on ABC Family’s “Switched At Birth” and “The Lying Game” as well as the ultra-popular series “The Vampire Diaries.”  Jones’ songs have also been featured in the television shows “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Bones,” “Private Practice,” “NY Med,” “Flashpoint,” “One Tree Hill,” “The Hills” and “Eli Stone,” as well as feature films “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” and “Something Borrowed.”

In addition to co-headlining tours with Joshua James, Jay Nash and Katie Herzig, Jones has hit the road with Ingrid Michaelson and shared the stage with Holly Williams, Shane Colvin, Paula Cole, and Patty Griffin.  Jones is also an original member of the nationally acclaimed collaborative artist group “Ten Out Of Tenn.”

Folk Family Revival to release “Water Walker” on April 7th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 20, 2015

Folk Family Revival to release Water Walker on April 7th

Magnolia, TX-based Americana quartet Folk Family Revival is set to release its sophomore album, Water Walker, on April 7, 2015, via Nashville label Rock Ridge Music (with distribution through ADA).  Armed with a sound that mixes the rootsy stomp of the Southern states with the trippy swoon of the West Coast, Folk Family Revival make music for rock clubs and rodeos, dive bars and honky-tonks, or campfires and cantinas. A throwback to a time when Southern rock and psychedelic music dominated the airwaves, they may be best described as a psychedelic folk-country rock and roll band.

Starting in February, in support of the new album’s first single, “If It Don’t Kill You,” Folk Family Revival will be conducting a two-and-a-half month radio tour visiting stations across the Southwest.  The band will also be touring and playing concert venues extensively in the Southwest this spring to promote the new album.  Tour dates will be forthcoming as they are confirmed.

When it came time to record Water Walker, Folk Family Revival decided to team up again with Jeffrey Armstreet, the same producer who helped them kick off their career with 2011’s Unfolding. The pace inside the studio was mostly laid-back. Whenever the guys were in Magnolia, they were usually working with Armstreet, slowly piecing together a collection of poetic songs ranging in topics from politics, faith, power, love, and the modern world. They’d start by tracking the songs live, capturing the groove and spontaneity of their live shows.

Water Walker includes 12 songs that were weaned and whittled on the road, where the band of brothers — featuring Mason, Barrett and Lincoln Lankford, along with family friend Caleb Pace — built up their audience one gig at a time.  After releasing Unfolding, the guys hit the Texas circuit hard, opening shows for legends like Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Wanda Jackson. At times called a country band, the young group used the label as motivation to push their boundaries and develop a diverse yet distinctive set. Soon their sound was reflective of a variety of genres. Some nights they’d have a blues rock feel and others an Americana or folk vibe. This wide-ranging experimentation and push to progress helped fuel Water Walker.

Says Mason: “We’ve met a lot of people since we released Unfolding, and that’s one of the reasons Water Walker sounds so different. We’re better players, better communicators, better friends. We’ve also learned to relax. When we did Unfolding, our producer and friends used to say we were kids who sounded like old souls. Always wanting to try new things and be willing to change, we started getting in touch with our youthful side. We’re still serious and obviously a little more mature… but there’s a looseness to the new record that wasn’t there before.”

Humming House to release “Revelries” on March 24, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 13, 2015

HUMMING HOUSE TO RELEASE REVELRIES ON MARCH 24th

Band plans tour dates with St. Paul & The Broken Bones (January) and

Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors (March/April)

Nashville quintet Humming House is set to release a new album, Revelries, on March 24, 2015, via Nashville label Rock Ridge Music (with distribution via ADA).  With interwoven threads of folk, soul, bluegrass and more, Humming House’s acoustic instrumentation – presenting mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and bass in fresh roles – flips between rousing energy and nuanced presentation, topped off by stunning vocal harmonies.  American Songwriter called their music “infectious and grin-inducing.”  Roughstock dubbed Humming House “darned close to perfect.” Huffington Post just named the band one of the “peak musical performers of 2014.”

Says band founder Justin Wade Tam:  “We’re thrilled to release a new set of musical narratives into the world.  Revelries embodies our adventures on the road, our evolution as a band, our love of storytelling, and our insatiable desire to have a good time on stage and off.”

Produced by Grammy winner Mitch Dane and mixed by Grammy winner Vance Powell (Jack White, Buddy Guy), Revelries is the third recording bearing the name Humming House. The title comes from a lyric in the tenth track on the album, “Carry On,” a feisty and ambitious song in which delicate charango plays counterpoint to a muted guitar. By the time we get there we’ve heard the striding opener “Run With Me,” the quick-stepping waltz “Fly On” and the smoldering, bluesy “Nuts, Bolts and Screws.” The album’s first single, “Great Divide,” is an ode to travel, motion, and new frontiers –a recurring theme that’s also touched on in the fiddle and accordion-driven “Hitch Hike” and the rocking “Freight Train.” A classic jazz ribbon of smoke drifts through the magic “I’m A Bird.” After “Carry On,” Revelries concludes on the drifting “Atlantic” – a throwback folk song that evokes old sea shanties.

Although Revelries is Humming House’s third release, it’s something of a debut. In 2011, songwriter Tam called on some friends to flesh out recordings of songs he’d written. Humming House earned attention for videos of their infectious songs “Cold Chicago” and “Gypsy Django” and landed performance slots with tastemakers such as Lightning 100, Daytrotter, and the Americana Music Association festival. The addition of Leslie Rodriguez brought a female vocal to mesh with Tam’s singing, while fiddler Bobby Chase brought classical training and down-home fire. That rounded out a band of highly skilled instrumentalists, including Josh Wolak on mandolin and Ben Jones on acoustic bass. Revelries is the first album these five musicians have written, arranged, and recorded together.

As complete as they are in the studio and on record, Humming House is fundamentally a live band.  With scarcely a tube’s worth of amplification or electricity and a drum kit of percussion distributed among the band members, they emit force on stage and demand attention. They’ve rocked rooms of all sizes and played Forecastle Festival, Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Festival, and the Cayamo Cruise with the elite of Americana. They opened the new Music City Roots hall in The Factory in 2014, sharing the bill with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell.

The band will hit the road for several dates with St. Paul & The Broken Bones in January (see full tour schedule below), play the 2015 Cayamo Cruise (w/John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Lyle Lovett) and join Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors in March and April.  Huffington Post urged, “Put Humming House on your list of Must-See Acts of 2015.”

Callaghan to release “A History of Now” in April

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 8, 2015

CALLAGHAN TO RELEASE A HISTORY OF NOW IN APRIL

Nashville based singer/songwriter Callaghan is set to release her second album, A History of Now, on April 7, 2015, via her own label, Green Town Music.  Featuring Callaghan’s trademark sound, which blurs the edges between pop, adult contemporary and Americana, the new record is the latest chapter of a success story based on hard work and a strong connection with a growing army of fans for the artist who moved to the U.S. from London in the summer of 2010.

A History of Now was recorded in Nashville with producer Dennis Matkosky (a songwriting legend whose credits include Keith Urban’s “You’ll Think of Me” and the Flashdance soundtrack’s “Maniac,” as well as several co-writes on the Callaghan album) and features contributions from some of Nashville’s best session players. Casey Brown, a member of Owl City, made loops for several songs, adding a modern edge to the album’s analog vibe. On a record filled with musical all-stars, Callaghan is easily the most impressive player, singing all 12 songs in a sweet, soaring voice that booms and breaks at all the right moments.

The other half of the team behind the record is Callaghan’s fans, who gave an overwhelming response to the Pledge Music campaign which financed the recording. It comes as no surprise that she garnered such an outpouring of support. Since moving to the U.S. to record her debut album, Life in Full Colour, with Atlanta singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins, Callaghan’s enjoyed four years of touring, recording and growing appreciation in the U.S. She’s transformed from a burgeoning indie songwriter — playing to 20 people during her first U.S. show — to a full-fledged headliner who’s toured across 46 states, played the Cayamo Cruise, shared the stage with artists such as Mullins, Jake Shimabukuro, Ed Kowalczyk and more, headlined at packed venues around the country, and logged more than 50,000 highway miles per year.

Along the way, Callaghan has developed a close connection with her fans, even booking a series of annual cross-country tours consisting of nothing but performances in people’s homes.  Her very first house show tour — which stretched from coast-to-coast in 2013 — earned Callaghan a four-page spread in Billboard Magazine. The magazine credited her with “helping reshape the business of touring, if not music consumption entirely,” and praised her for her strong vocals and do-it-yourself work ethic.

The connection with her fans is more evident than ever in A History of Now, whose songs reflect moments and experiences from Callaghan’s own life, as well as stories that people have shared with her. While often intensely personal, Callaghan’s songs are written with a universal quality, which allows her audience to connect them to their own lives. On “Who Would I Be,” one of the album’s many highlights, she pays tribute to those supporters, thanking them for allowing her music to enter their lives and for enabling her to do what she loves. Meanwhile, “Crazy Beautiful Life” — the album’s lead single — celebrates the joys found in the sheer unpredictability and exuberance of life, and “Best Year” — a re-recording of a bouncy, breezy song that also appeared on Life in Full Colour — is a seize-the-day anthem aimed at anyone who’s longed to “tear up the rulebook, leave it all behind… and find some bluer skies.”  The Huffington Post wrote, “She’s one of those performers whose genuine sweetness is transparent in her voice, and it shines through her writing.”

When Callaghan made the move across the pond she was still a relatively unknown name in the States. She had reached out to Mullins via Myspace, and after being knocked out by her voice and songwriting he agreed to a rare collaboration.  Now that she has enjoyed success in the U.S., Callaghan also plans to focus her promotion and touring efforts across the pond in 2015. She was recently featured in the BBC TV documentary “Bob Harris: My Nashville” and will tour the UK later this year.  She will also embark upon extensive touring in the U.S. (see full list of confirmed tour dates below), including an official showcase at the Folk Alliance conference, 30A Songwriters’ Fest, and a planned “All Four Corners” house concert tour throughout May and June which will travel from Tampa to Boston, across to Seattle, down to San Diego and back to Nashville.

If Life in Full Colour was an album all about chasing dreams, then A History of Now is an album about achieving them. “We are all, right now, writing a story which will one day fascinate someone,” Callaghan says. “The way we live, the decisions we make, and the moments of hope, grief and happiness which punctuate all our lives will one day make someone stop, think and wonder. All of us are writing our own ‘history of now.’”

Isabel Rose releasing holiday song to radio

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOVEMBER 18, 2014

ISABEL ROSE RELEASING HOLIDAY SONG TO RADIO

Isabel Rose is set to release a pair of songs to radio just in time for the holidays.  The just-recorded radio single, “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah,” along with “Never Satisfied” (the most-requested song from her latest album, Trouble in Paradise), will be hitting radio this month.

“Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah,” a traditional Jewish holiday song, was produced by Julian Fleisher (who recently produced Ana Gasteyer’s new album currently occupying the #4 spot on the iTunes jazz chart).  “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah” features a signature Rose style:  a fresh jazz-waltz mixed with a traditional Christmas melody called “Carol of the Bells.” Players on the recording include Clifford Carter (piano/Fender Rhodes), Arthur Vint (drums), Thomas Hubbard (bass), and Mark Sherman (vibraphone).

“After a lifetime of Christmas carol envy, I decided to bring a little sass to a song from my own heritage,” says Rose.  “Since there are only three Hanukkah songs in existence (at least that I’m aware of), I chose the one that best lent itself to my purposes. I hope you like the results as much as I do! I think it’s a swingin’ way to welcome in the holiday season no matter what your religious identification is!”

Isabel Rose released her CD, Trouble In Paradise, on September 16, 2014.  The album was produced by the legendary Bob Rock and was inspired by a time when America was aglow with Kennedy’s Camelot by day and lit by the lights of Rat Pack Vegas by night.  Trouble in Paradise delivers thirteen tracks that are infectious, charming and completely refreshing. The title track of Isabel’s CD, also called “Trouble In Paradise,” hit #31 on the Mediabase Adult Contemporary radio chart.

At turns sassy and brassy, sultry and sophisticated, and always with charm, Rose is a showgirl at heart offering her own interpretations of classic songs as well as some surprises.  JazzTimes raves, “She goes stiletto-to-stiletto with Ann-Margret!” AXS.com says, “The album exhibits Isabel’s meticulous attention to detail as much as it validates her ability to create an exemplary work of musical rapture. Everything from the feline purr of her oft breathy and sultry vocals, which parallel the swagger of such greats as Frank and Dean, to the subtleties of the exquisite spot on yet remarkably fresh and inventive arrangements, she nails everything just right.”

Trouble In Paradise (distributed by BDG/RED, a division of Sony Music Entertainment), is available on iTunes and Amazon and from select distributors.
